Good evening Hubbers

I was curious to find out what local bicycle brands currently exist in South Africa. Any help expanding on the list would be amazing ????. The proudly South African bicycle manufacturers I am aware of (at least at the time of posting this) are the following:

  • Momsen
  • Pyga
  • Signal
  • Avalanche
  • Rook
  • Simple Sam

Looking forward to broadening my horizons and adding some local ‘gems’ to the list????

You could throw Calculus into that mix too then I guess.

The Momsen offshoots of Muna and Farr could also count to some degree

Came here to also note https://www.calculus-bikes.com/

But then what are we really calling "SA Bike Brand & Manufacturers"

Would a brand just be someone who has slapped their sticker on a generic frame? If so there are a couple of additional names we can add to this list?

Manufacturers, well Mercer would certainly count then.

Yes I know. Was not sure what would qualify it as South African.

It was started here?

The head office is here?

It is manufactured here?

I am sure bikes like Momsen and Avalanche are not manufactured in South Africa anymore?

German owned, but as far as I know, all design is done here so I'd consider it to be South African????

Momsen design their own bikes, and while Victor the designer/founder has emigrated, the brand itself is still based in SA.

Silverback moved their base of operation to Germany, they themselves claim "German engineering"
There's more to a brand than just the geographic nature of manufacture.
