There is nothing in the 2 day Berg & Bush that needs a DS. With all the climbing a HT would most probaly be better suited for the ride. The trails are perfectly manicured, they sweep the trails in the mornings before you ride them.

Having recently acquired a trek top fuel 7 which comes with big burly XR4 team issue tyres and has 120mm front and rear I can say I'm glad it's not a hard tail because I just point it at the rock garden and it goes "bommdamoomda - boomity boomda" over it and and disguises the fact that I'm like the ZA job market - suffering from a severe skills shortage.

Adopting this strategy on a hardtail the only thing doing boomda boomda would be my ass as it passed my elbow.

Do I need a dual suss? --- yes.

Last time I had a HT on the trails was at Meerendal .... halfway down Burry Stander I misjudged something .... I came down while the bike was moving UP .... hit the saddle so hard that was bent totally down !!

For good measure my tools, bike tools that is, were in the car so I ended up walking down ....

I now use a HT for road rides, and gravel.  For trails I prefer my Gomma-Gomma ....

Do you "need" a full suspension .... nope.

Do you "want" one .... I certainly do.

That was sort of my point. Outliers will always say they do XYZ on their ridiculous bike which doesn't make it less silly.

Here is me on a suitably stupid hardtail at the blockhouse on Wednesday
