Your thoughts please...

I have previously purchased two new Santa Cruz(s). Most recently a Blur C (which was stolen) and after that heartache, I decided it is not worth spending another R100 + k on a new bike.

So I came onto Bike Hub and found someone selling a three week old Santa Cruz Blur C for R70 k. The first owner had decided to relocate overseas and was dumping toys. I have had the bike six months, I was told by the dealer (when I bought my first bike) and by a representative from Rush Sports that the bike has a lifetime warranty...

Imagine my surprise, after six months the clear coat starts pealing off the bike in numerous paces... I get hold of Rush Sports, meet them at the dealer; they tell me lifetime warranty only applies to first time owner... WTF guys, lifetime is lifetime (yes or no).

This smacks of complete BS.

If this is the case, I suggest Santa Cruz is boycotted until Lifetime Warranty is honoured!

I don't know of a brand that transfers the lifetime warrantee. They wouldn't make any money. Also "lifetime" is very ambiguous in general, I suggest taking a look at the fine print to see what exactly their definition is of "lifetime".

Also only for the first owner

As for the predicament of the OP: has Rush Sports correctly applied their warranty policy? Yes, they have. By doing this have they lost a customer and put doubt in the minds of those who read this thread? For sure. I'd suggest trying to get hold of someone in the management team at Rush Sports to see if a goodwill compromise can be reached. Maybe an approved repairer could redo the clear coat with the OP and Rush contributing to the costs. If Rush Sports give you the concrete wall treatment, approach Santa Cruz USA directly via social and other channels.

So would you expect the clear coat to peel off after 6 months... lifetime warranty or not? Tells me Santa Cruz dont trust their product... Trek definitely does honour second owner!

Only 2 years for second owner from date of handover

So the whole process started with the US who agreed to send a new frame. Rush Sports are the ones saying lifetime warranty first owner... my point is, one would not expect the clear coat to peel off after 6 months, lifetime warranty or not! if the bike was six years old and not six months, agreed... but the bike is brand new, hardly ridden...

While I understand SantaCruz reponse to this guy in some way, it would also leave a horrible taste in my mouth if it happened to me, sadly as another poster mentioned "lifetime warranty" doesnt mean much, if anything most of the time.....

The bike is not even six months old and the paint is peeling off... if this happened after six years, absolutely, it is my problem. No rocks have hit the area... just crap workmanship.

I hear you, and agree with you, just thought I would share the video....

Maybe you must contact Santa Cruz direct? You say that they were willing to send a frame, but Rush says no? Sounds sketchy to me, tell Santa Cruz that, I am sure there must be something in the warranty about a second owner having some sort of cover? Like Trek has provision for a transfer to a 2nd owner for 2 years I think after the initial purchase date...
