But CTCT is in its 44th year (45 next year), is there other criteria at play that excludes CTCT from being older that Amashova ?

This is exactly what I was thinking. I was wondering if it was something trivial like the name change or sponsor change (from Argus to PnP CTCT) that made it a different race. That doesn't make much sense but it's the only reason I could think of.

I think it has to do with Amashova always being affiliated with CSA (SACF back in the day) and it being classed as a "Classic". CTCT (Argus) was a Pedal Power event in the early years which wasn't recognized by the federation/governing body.

I may be wrong though.

May have something to do with CTCT originally being a protest ride and not necessarily a timed recreational event.

Irrespective of the semantics though, they are both exceptional events in their own right and historical context.

If one is fortunate enough do any of the Ride to Shova rides down, take the opportunity. It really is food for the soul and a beautiful cycling journey filled with memories. This is coming from a none roadie 🤭

The Macsteel National Classic, aka Star 100, Germiston Classic, Carnival City Macsteel National Classic, is in its 37 edition this year, courtesy of organising two events in one year. The same 2 clubs (Cycling and Rotary) have been organising it since 1984.

Our claim to fame is:
an event for cyclists organised by cyclists”.

By the way, the Classic was for A events that paid a certain minimum prize money, and has nothing to do with the years it was held.

Wasn't the Star 100 the original 94.7 ?

The Macsteel race IMO is still one of the best organised events here up in the northern parts of South Africa. I have done it a few times and enjoyed each one of them. Unfortunately finances are dictating that I choose wisely when I want to enter any event these days. I have not done any race yet since covid restrictions were relaxed.

Need some advise.

Is number collection for Amashova in Durban ?

I see it is at Suncoast the Globe, and can only find this in Durban.

Yes, next to the casino. Last year it was in the parking area near this, Covid protocols and such.

Thanks !

This is a bit of a mess. Was not planning on driving from Jhb all the way to Durban just to pick up a race number and then back to Pmb. Changes the whole travelling plan.

I understand the roads are also a nightmare with all the roadworks in that area.

Would have thought number collection would be in Pmb where the event starts.

Hattons Cycles in PMB is doing a number collection on behalf of all of those in PMB. Give them a call, maybe they can assist you to make your life easier.
