Going to take many trail builder teams to get this fixed in three weeks .... 😵💫

  • 3 weeks later...

Credit where it's due. I did the 59km (Strava says just over 56km) and felt that JK and team planned a perfect route that showcased the best of LF. All in all, a  magnificent race and day with perfect weather.

I used to enter events as soon as possible. However, After driving all the way from Somerset West to Paarl to do take part in one of the Bikefest events the Sunday only to get there and then having the races cancelled, I’ve also adopted the book as late as possible mentality.

that's a weird thing to say, not often a race get cancelled unless it's weather, so am guessing organiser issues?

if you entered the day before it would it not have been cancelled too?

it was cancelled due to rain, we raced the last stage of tour du cap that day and it was pourring from start to finish

from 3rd hand feedback the entire Paarl thing was a mess, not just the races.

So after being vocal about the high entry fee, let me also give praise where praise is due... that was one frikkin awesome MTB race. The views are unmatched and those switchback, bermed "supertubed" type descents were just incredible 🤙

Well done to the trail builders for getting that route prepped in time, I could honestly fault nothing, even the Spur burger at the end was good.

ok fair enough. so the original comment was complaining about the weather then. Can't please everyone

good to know. i loved the Original Meurant type version Lourensford Classic, even broke an arm there once. I would totally do this again for old times' sake.

The original comment was just saying he'd rather enter as late as possible so that he can do it knowing what the forecast is for the day / if there is a chance the event will be cancelled or not. Can't blame him for that

and it was a response to the comment of people that do that being hard to work around from an organisers pov.

This is why the late entry fee (slacker tax) was invented. apathetic capetonians....
