EwanMcTeagle Posted June 29, 2023 Share So I haven't seen this asked in a while - what would be a maximum local content (i.e. manufactured in ZA) build for a down country / trail bike ? The thinking is to build around a Pyga Mobu frame, but it would be great to hear opinions on how far the rest can go. Between cSixx and South Industries we could definitely get wheels, some drivetrain and a fair bit of finishing kit done. Note sure how much of their portfolio Lyne builds locally (e.g. their droppers), and of course I am definitely missing others.
AkwA Posted June 30, 2023 Share Should be able to do everything other than derailleur, shifter, tyres and suspension, not too sure on pedals.
Jewbacca Posted June 30, 2023 Share Things probably not available that would be 'made in SA' Groupset including brakes Saddle Dropper Grips Pedals C-Sixx, South Wheels and Pyga would probably cover almost everything else. I'm not 100% sure the small batch carbon stuff like bars are made locally though It seems an unnecessarily expensive, complex problem, but if you can afford it, quite a fun one I guess. I'd definitely support Lyne for the miscellaneous missing bits like a dropper and grips, then just apply common sense with the groupo and pedals. Enjoy, good luck and post pictures

Wannabe Posted June 30, 2023 Share Don't forget about Wayne at Rapide. Not sure how many of his offerings are "local" though.Ā Ā

nick_the_wheelbuilder Posted June 30, 2023 Share As far as I know, South Industries are the only guys who make rims in SA. cSixx import their rims. Lynskey and Mtree

Fred van Vlaanderen Posted June 30, 2023 Share Love this idea.Ā Ā If it was me, this is how I would do it: Mobu, Lyne carbon handlebar 31.8, Csixx Stem, Csixx custom headset top cap, Sram Eagle shifters, Sram DB8 brakes, Csixx chainring, Csixx Trail chain guide, Csixx derailleur cage and jockey wheels, South Industries wheels, Lyne dropper (or Csixx if you can get your hands on oneā¦ yes, they make them, but not yet offering to publicā¦ not yet), Maxxis rubber, Shimano pedals, Cushcore pro inserts.Ā Ā If you go down this route, do share pics so we can all drool and admire the local produce.Ā
