We rode around the south peninsula and in Kommetjie we came across this rhino made entirely from trash (no the bikes were not part of the sculpture). I hope my children (and grandchildren?) will still be able to see the real thing many years from now.

Well I would like to tell you I beat pantani`s record of 36 min from bottom to top but far from it. I rode about 28km before towards Galibier(not up it just towards it) which it all gradual uphill to loosen the legs then went up Alps D` Huez which is a climb of 1880m ish with 14km climb at average gradient of 7.6%

and 14% at steepest. I don't have all details as it was a hire bike but did take my polar with. So probably did more than 2000m ascent, took 5hours during the ride. I did it quite slow as it a privilege to do the route and you don't want it to end so I stopped at cafe`s for food drinks, photos etc. Was hot as I started at 11:00. Polar stats: Max Hr 172(94%), avg 139(76%), 3702kcal burned.

Often on some of these beautiful spring mornings, I would take the backpack with the camera along and ride along the back roads, not to get fit or get faster, but for this !!!

Great pictures Pierre! I sometimes do exactly the same thing, it's the cycling version of stopping to smell the roses.

You hyperventilated when you ran acoss that cobra?

Sh@t, its a big one. Same thing happened to me last Month when I almost went over a 2m Black Mamba, but believe you me,I almost crap my pants. And no, I didn't stop to take a nice pic, I just pedal as hard and fast as I could away from that thing...

I'm pissed scared of a snake! Would rather spend a whole day alone with my mother-in-law shopping on a hot summer day, than to be in the same room as one of those things, lol
