[Event] One Tonner

Do this Mense know there is no prize money in the C batch? Why would you risk your life and your bike for no rewards especially on a 170km race?

In saying that, I also recently just risked it down Bainskloof for absolutely no reason and am now nursing a broken collarbone so maybe i should just shut up rather.

I think the cars just bring back the guys that get dropped

Still a problem.
Using cars after a mechanical should be the only blind eye situation. If you're dropped you're dropped.

nah man, how many times you, or me and you have been dropped on the climb and made it back to the bunch shortly after. Hell last CTCT the cars were slowing me down when I was chasing back in Chappies descent to catch the bunch.

Sometimes I just wish the road racing this side was just a little bit more even for everyone, no cars, no assistance, just you, your bike, whatever water you decide to start the race with, and there you go. We already have to fight against teams of 10 on our own. If people took better care of their bikes they wouldn't need a car.

In all the races that I've done only once I would've needed a car after I slashed a tyre beyond repair.

You might have been the mixed team in the floral shirts? If so you okes rode very well - you had to chase back on after someone had to stop just before hels I think - caught us just before the railway line on the Franschoek road.

No, we were the Pure Savage mixed team, were on the front pretty much from the gun.

There was a bit of shuffling up to the base of Hels, and a little on the descent, but after that we just rotated 7 on the front the rest of the way (until I blew up quick spectacularly at 130k, and then they rotated 6 for the rest 😆)

Ah right well - of course it would be bloody Savages dropping me on Hels as per normal - D split there - I was in the second little groupetto -

I can't tell you how many times I've just had to accept my fate as a bunch of savages heads off up the road.

How long does it normally take for PPA to update your seeding after an event?

Probably a while. When we aren’t close to Argus I dont think they care too much.

Seems like that crash in the video is where the guy was killed 3 weeks back. Same bump in the road. Same result. But he was run over afterwards. Guess we wont see it repaired...... no suprise there.

Yes, it was at the same spot.

That section of road is part of the Provincial Roads network.

PPA has reported the initial accident to the relevant contact persons at Provincial Roads.  PPA is currently busy following up with this department.

PS - This is was posted on the Hub late last week, after feedback from Liz at PPA.

By all means, send more emails to info@pedalpower.org.za The more cyclists that contact them about this spot and the dangers, the more they have to communicate to the Provincial Roads department.

Still looking for that magic email addres that we can all contact at Provincial Roads ....

You'd think if PPA knew about this spot, they'd put a marshall there knowing a few peletons would come racing through on Sunday?

Was it quite near the start? I think I saw two tar bumps (little mounds of tar) marked with yellow paint. This was on the left. On the right shoulder of the road was an ambulance and a rider indicating the danger to our group (thanks, whoever that was).
