Ja, unfortunately the rugby club has the ethanol distribution centre open on a Friday afternoon.Β

We gain nothing from that other than venue use.Β

I will raise this as a point we can review for next time. Thx for comment.

That’s because the location link πŸ”— supplied in the email actually takes you further down to where the start line is.

What organisational excellence. And those volunteers with the big hearts and endless encouragement - priceless.

Always a bit proud of my β€˜hood where runners, mountain bikers and roadies of all size and shapes reflect the prevailing exercise culture around here.

Lekker bike ride. Well marshalled by motorbike accompanying us in E who had to deal with a huge Zwift style blob when we caught D 20km before the turn around at Malmesbury. Annoyed with myself for being out of position at the bridge and as a consequence having my 2 minute power weakness let me down when the guys at the front hammered up to Adderley.

Sweet school kids cheering at the finish and all the way back to the rugby club, very lekker community vibe around the whole event.Β

Thanks to all for a fun bike ride.

Well organized and incredibly fun ride. I was in G and we caught F (or at least a huge bunch from F) just before halfway, making for a pretty massive group. Some riders seemed pretty keen on a game of chicken with the on-coming cars, but other than that it was plain sailing. Easy pace and I even had the energy to ride back home to stellies.Β

Great race organisation, thanks to the marshals and all involved.

Well behaved A bunch for the most part.

Pity about the crash in the % group. Saw a few ladies with bloody elbows sitting on the road as we passed through

Perhaps if more guys took there turn on the front, the pace could have been higher.Β

Good race (for me) in %. I was one wheel in front of the crash behind me, never a nice sound to hear carbon and bodies hitting the deck.

There was a small lip where we went from old tar to new tar, and I think the bunch overreacted, braking rippled backwards, and eventually wheels touched leading to the crash. Had a mate caught up in it, he managed to finish with only the front derailleur working (and probably a mild concussion, he’s getting checked out).

We also had a few $ riders drop back to our group, they seemed to have a lot of fun (at our expense πŸ˜‚). The number 1 seed would drift backwards until he decided the pace was too slow, then he’d blast off the front, and then wait for us to surge and catch him. Made for a surgy race, but all in relatively good spirits.

The tandems were honestly a bit of a pain, not sure what the solution here is, but getting a big racing group (with the racing women) mixed in with some tandems who naturally have very different momentum’s, made some bunch dynamics quite messy in the 2nd half. (Edit: just checked the results, and most of % finished ahead of the first place # pair, so we passed every single tandem).

All in all, great race, as we’ve come to expect from 99er. Great job @NicholasHΒ and team.

Now to see what beta they give us πŸ˜‚

Gravel Trilogy was epic. My first gravel event and thoroughly enjoyed it. Need to work on my arm β€œmuscles” to manage the corrugations, and up my single track skills Β πŸ«£πŸ˜†

When I was following in the bakkie my wife commented at the wobbly bits on the arms as you guys hit the corrugations πŸ˜†

My 12th 99er and very happy they removed the "on number 99 Odendaal climb" part of this one. I rode the last bit of tar after joining Adderly from Spes Bona on a totally flat front tyre. Would not have finished if it was up Odendaal Road again.Β

Langvlei is one of my favourite roads and it was great to see so many people riding it. Gravel seems to be getting more popular, I see lots of future graduates to MTB.
