Is see preliminary seedings show winning time not adjusted by much, from actual 2:14:22 to adjusted 2:12:58. But with a beta of 0.8 of the difficulty of the CTCT, don't expect any seeding improvement.

I think that's fair. It's such a flat route.

Had a great day out in AG - the Trilogy is a very cool event, a real skills tester, from road racing to hooking berms in the singletrack. Great course design!
My only gripe is that flat-bar mountain bikes were allowed in the bunch - makes for some very dodgy bunch riding, I saw many near-misses when an 800mm-odd bar on an MTB got tangled up with a curly-bar rider trying to maximise slip. Please consider making this a drop-bar only event.

Hi. That was always my idea behind the Trilogy, the mixed skills.

I hear your gripe but again the idea behind the Trilogy is mixed format racing. To try and make it drop bar only would defeat it's purpose.

However, thanks for comment. Glad you enjoyed the event.

Where are you seeing that? My PPA seeding doesn't have a 99er result as yet.

We’ll just have to work harder to drop those under-geared MTBers on the road sections then!

Indeed 😆

I heard from the front runners (gravel bikes I assume) that their avg was 42km/h when they left tar for the first time

what a lovely ride, but i was probably overseeded. About 18km in, with AG averaging 42kph, i had to drop the wheel and figured i'd recover time on the gravel.

experimented by cutting up nougat, and wrapped in clingfilm, which melted and so i chewed on plastic when i needed energy. took my first ever gel (and probably my last) right before malanshoogte.

i think it went straight to my head as i took to the klipheuwel trail, went down that bank, read the sign saying reduce speed, thought i was going about the same as those in front of me, and proceeded to take off from that a-frame like a fighter jet.
braced for impact, painted myself with durbanvilles finest soil, got up, straighted the bar and went "oh THATS the one @BuffsVintageBikes warned about on the forum".

that trail was not plain sailing after that with a slightly off position and feeling a bit jittery, but the bike and body took it well.

Jip, those A-frames can be fun ... and they do turn into launching pads very quickly ....

Hehe.... I think this is sign you ignored

I've literally JUST finished clearing the trail of signage. Yes, I mark the trails for good reason. I'm a keen MTBer myself and thus I know what over exuberance can do....

My trail marshals said they saw quite a few guys with gravel stained shirts. I assume you were not the only one who got acquainted with Durbanville's finest crop soil....

Seriously though, glad you're OK. My biggest fear as organizer is broken bones on that trail. It can be quite hairy if you don't concentrate

luckily i paid attention to that one, i was most concerned about not impaling myself on the closes fences.

embarrassingly, i took myself out on the very first one descending after the malanshoogte entrance. I was in a good position, but my wahoo says i only spent 89 seconds stationary  😂
got some nice battle scars and a 2.55.

@NicholasH thanks again to you and every single one of the marshalls, parents, kids, medics, etc etc, for what was once again, the very best run race. you also do so much on this forum, answering questions, taking (sometimes misguided) flak, criticism, suggestions etc. its brave to open yourself up to a public platform and very few organisers do it, the hands on approach really sets your race apart. its always a pleasure do do the 99er and the Trilogy is such a welcome addition

Thanks for the kind words 😁. I have a passion for all things cycling so it comes naturally.....

WRT to your fall : Yep, that always catches people out. Last year our ONLY broken bone was at that same Malanshoogte A Frame. Maybe I should put some cushions around it next year....😆

Hope to see you back next year
