Is it still frowned upon to rather cycle that short N1 stretch to FW/Nelson Boulevard instead of going over the bridge for people going to town?

No. It’s no longer a freeway there.

Yes, that seemed to be the consensus. But it was still frowned upon. Maybe more for safety and irritated drivers.

Frowned upon ? I've been doing it since I started cycling, never had one car hooting at me there

Good question! There's an excellent bicycle-only path that runs alongside the dedicated MyCiTi bus lane through Paarden Eiland from Milnerton into the city.

Oh wait, we stopped using that years ago because it was unsafe and the city did nothing. So now we risk our lives on a highway, only to get robbed there.
