...still waiting for BEELD to come on record...

yaaaaa' date=' die dag as die perde horings kry. hulle lawe en troos seker nou die ou ballie wat niks verkeerd gedoen het nie...

They sell their paper in public, surely they know how to participate in a public internet forum...?

Ahh please, do you really think Beelds/or any other Paper /Media are gonna want to hear what cyclists say about this? They want the sensation, the story, to sell, to make money. And what is a better way to get the publics attention by writing "Oupa beaten up by 6 cyclists" Not oupa (probarly wanted to drive over the cyclist) got beaten up. Not cyclists almost got killed by Oupa. hmmmmm?????????? Let me tell you, tomorrow, everyone would have forgotten about "Oupa"(who went for target practive in his 4x4/BMW/Merc etc), and try and run more cyclists over.

Exactly my point!!!

BEELD is one of the sponsors of the TSHWANE MAYORAL RIDE, held in Pretoria this year with great success. Where does the buck stop and journalism's responsibility begin...

I recall that we had similar reference to the French newspapers (Le Monde etc.) after the TDF doping allegations.

If they're in for the money, then we (and I include myself!) are a bunch of fools to fall for the buck because cycling becomes one of the whores of the media!!! Good enough for the money, but not good enough to be given an opporunity to "hear the other side". As is popularly mentioned: there are always three versions: the one version, the alternative and the truth!!!

(I apologise in advance for the gross example!)

Thanks fourbar - just for those who are believing and hanging onto the words of Beeld, are'nt these the very people who are always getting the names or surnames of the cyclists and winners incorrect????

Proves what excellent journalists we have in SA where a fact is only a fact if you managed to fool people into believing it.

....

I commute to work on my motorcycle everyday' date=' comes rain or shine and on the m/cycle I feel like Moses, the traffic just opens up like the sea did for him. Why, because of my bad ass biker brothers and not all bikers are like that, but shyte man, we all benefit. If a car can almost run over pavements or even pull over and stop to make space for a biker, why can?t they do the same for cyclists?

....[/quote']

Skywalker I agree that cars can be more conscientious towards bicycles, but motorcycles are not holding the cars up in traffic see.  Cars are much more likely to be held up by cars, or bicycles riding side by side.  The same courtesy that the motorist is giving the motorcyclist, is due to cars by cyclists.

I ride a motorcycle too and if some idiot is not making room for me, I'm assuming that he/she is not using their mirrors.  Only a few cyclists use mirrorsEmbarrassed, so the motorists need to hoot to get thier attention.

I have no problem with a hoot to let me know they are behind us. Taxi's on Adderley (back of Durbanville) do it a lot and I thank them, because you cannot be looking behind you every 5 seconds.

My biggest problem is when there's two lanes and there's no cars on the road. Normally between 05H00 and 06H45. You get some of them who needs to see how close they can pass, with the other lane totally free. They get the finger.

Or the sh*thead who pass you and then go and drive next to the pavement. The normally then has to stop at a robot with no room for you to pass on the left.

And then you also get cyclist riding with other cyclist, which will run cyclist down as soon as he gets into his big 4X4, Merc, BMW......................

To these motorist I say give them  a bicycle and let them ride thru Kuilsrivier on a Friday afternoon between 15H00 and 17H00. See if they can survive.

I missed this whole thread. But reading it now I must add. Hitting a 60 year old man is like hitting a women....

But......There's always a catalyst for any reaction.

I dont understand the mentality "Lets hear the other side"!!

What other side.?

Did the old man assault them - NO.!

So whats the "other side of the story" - nobody, nobody, has the right to assault anybody with fists and pepper spray unless they were attacked by like force first.

Waiting for him at a traffic light showed a clear mind and a clear and pre meditated intentional mind set to beat him up - that is pre meditated assault and is a criminal offence - there is NO OTHER SIDE.!

Hey, 60 is not that old for someone that does the comrades every year.  It will take at least 6 cyclists with pepper spray to get the upper hand with my dadBig%20smile.  But he'll not pick a fight with a bunch of cyclists...

It is pathetic to see cyclists standing up for motorists.  It is pathetic to see people argue over rumours and not facts.

And it is sad to see that we as cyclists are so devided..........

Good luck on this post.
