Oertel' date=' this is very shortsighted. Why shoot the messenger, especially if he/it is contributing to the betterment of your sport?[/quote']

In this case the messenger has the power to make or brake and therefore they should be very careful what they print

This idiot does'nt realise the ramifications of hate speech such as his article.

He has just lost my bussiness account with his firm, may not chnage his life, but will add a little hurt to his pocket.

Don't wish to be associated with the likes of such. Angry

And i will be distributing this among other companies within the Bidvest Group, since Bidvest own shares in his biz.

One step @ a time.

he should be taken to task and required by Volksblad to contact EVERY family of slain cyclists to personally apologise and his follow up article should list each and every one of them. Maybe, just maybe, he will then realise the damage that he has done, and equally maybe his readers might see how long the list is, and hopefully even see the name of someone they know thereon and realise just what the true situation is.

Dis jammer "VOLKSBLAD"...so 'n berig is baie swak...wonder wat dink Wilhelm de Swardt van die artikel na die great opvolg berig van die 61 jarige bestuurder.

I missed this. Was it to do with "Oupa"? Has anyone got a link to the follow up artice?

I dont' know about you all..........but things are starting to get out of hand..........ons of these days it's going to be like Beirut trying to be on a bike didging all the freaking cars trying to take us out.............

All I know is that we're protected by law so what ever and who ever tries to take us out will get proscecuted....and if proven to be malicious it will be just as good as a hit and run........

I know and pray that no one on a bike ever be in such a situation...........So please, please look out for these guys

What are the possibilities of instituting a class action against this junk tabloid in light of them tacitly inciting the propagation of murder of people who ride bicycles? Surely the volksblad have a duty of care in what they print??

... and some of what he says makes sense:

" ... Kom ons vat ?n voorbeeld: As ek rustig ry op pad Hartbeespoortdam toe

of met daardie agterpaadjie by Durbanville en, soos gewoonlik, daar

twee of drie fietsryers is wat langs mekaar ry, is dit vir my ?n

probleem. As ek dan boonop ?n keuse moet maak tussen bo-oor hulle ry of

uitswaai en ?n botsing met ?n oorlaaide bakkie vol plaaswerkers

veroorsaak, raai wat gaan ek kies?

...

ding beklim."

he's not funny or witty, and he's pretty arrogant himself ... but there must be a lot of motorists out there who share at least some of this guy's irritation with bicycles ...

cat-i ....I agree with your sentiments as much of the hatred of cyclists is created by some of our unmannered brethren but I don't believe he should irresponsibly advocate running over all and sundry! What I find interesting is that Taxi's are known pests but you don't hear "brave" deon say a word about them as he is no doubt **** scared of what they would do to him....They certainly wouldn't be posting opinions on the internet but rather posting AK47 slugs into his sorry ass...??

I think we all need to calm down and not sound like the conceited cyclists that he assumes us to be!  Let's face it, like any group of people we have some good, sane citizens and some idiots amongst us!  Every time we shout abuse at a car, ride all over the road or don't stop at stop signs it sends a message to motorists.  We need to start acting like grownup responsible citizens and maybe cars will start seeing us as humans, not just idiots on bikes.  I am sure that we lost a lot of respect on Sunday on the Tour D'Winelands when the A group (which I was in) rode on both sides of the road and oncoming cars had to ride in the yellow line!! <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We can't go on like this.  Clearly we cant control ourselves, so we probably need 'parental control'.  We need the PPA or CSA to step in and fine/disqualify/demote riders so that we start acting better and start deserving respect, rather shouting for it like spoilt kids and just add fuel to some idiot journalist's fire...
