thats actually a good list...I believe the smiths footage was from their famous gig at the kilburn ballroom

the queen live aid concert they rehearsed that set for weeks and weeks before whilst everyone just rocked up, which made them stand out head and shoulders above the rest...added to that they got the sound engineers to turn up the volume a few notches for their set and then turn it down again afterwards...if you have not watched their full set from that it is well worth it...and its on youtube

you just wonder if there should at least be some modern acts outside of daft punk that should be making that list..people are generally blinkered by nostalgia

Look , Mercury was a phenomenal showman, Queen are a phenomenal band, entertainer and entertainers to the end.

But the honourable mention of Pink Floyd at Live 8 should rank at number one.

The history behind that concert and the magnitude of it will be unrivalled.

I missed this.

The Wall was seen as a concept album by Pink Floyd, it later got used for a whole bunch of other political stuff which we won't get into right now.

The tour and stage is believed to be the most expensive ever in the history of rock music.

The band , through that album became an inspiration for many other bands and triggered many a creative spark in musicians world wide.

The lyrics "we don't need no education" was scribbled and spewed all over the world, the band had overnight turned in to mega superstars loved by many generations of music listeners.

The album itself was laced with much politics within the band itself, it was believed that Waters went totally mad and that his arrogance had overcome him.

The tour was big and the movie equally big.

The stage was built with a massive wall and the entire tour had two stages leap frogging from venue to venue.

Waters being the anal analytic wanted all credit and fame bestowed upon him.

Not lang after this the band split up and a rivalry beyond imagination started to happen.

Gilmour carried the name Pink Floyd forward with Nick Mason and Richard Wright.

They later went on to launch the critically acclaimed Division Bell (one of my favourite Floyd albums)

Anyway, long story short, but Waters in his state of "madness" wanted to sue the entire band, the rivalry and gap between them got bigger and bigger.

They were approached to do Live 8.

This was the first time they reunited.

Thus the Pink Floyd performance at Live 8 should be at number one, purely from a historical perspective and then the magnitude of the reunion itself.
