Tried to bite my tongue, started to bleed, can't take the pain anymore.

I'll tell you what sickens me. The amount of gel packets roadies throw away on the road as they finish eating the contents. And I say roadies because when I ride on MTB race routes I never see litter.Angry Why not just return the empty packet to the pocket it came from?

woah... dangerous statement....

I wholeheartedly agree with returning the empty packet to the pocket from whence it came, but i have seen plenty of litter on trails at MTB events..

Now would it not be a good idea to rather make the gels in a bio degradeable package? That way we could moer them all over the place and not feel bad about it or make you get that churning feeling in your stomache.

I agree with you, I'm tired of stopping to pick up other peoples cr@p on MTB races, but somebody has to do it, and in the sometimes remote areas we ride, no-one else is going to.

I kept my Gel packet in my pockets if you eat all the gel no need for stickyness. BUT i do say this if you are to throw them out only do it at the waterpoints cos they will end up picking up their litter anyway and I dont mean down the road I mean right there infront of them...

Buy a gel bottle and use that - its far easier to ride with and if you close it properly will not mess your shirt and is far better for the environment!

Farmers get difficult claiming that their animals eat the gel sachets, leading to veterinary problems.  This  leads to farmers/ nature conservation guys not wanting races to cross their land after previous problems.

One possibility I have heard mentioned by a race organizer is to have all sachets and wrappers carried by riders marked with their race number.  Spot checks to be done at the start to see that everything marked.  If any  rubbish is collected along the way bearing your number, it is put up to "name and shame"or for time penalties/ disqualification.  Do not know if it would be practical though.   Cyclists need to realize though that if they don't put the sticky thingy back in their pocket, next year's race might not happen.  This is a serious problem.

you people act as if you're living in a 1st world country. wake up / flame me, but have you been outside your bubble lately?

sure, don't litter, feel better about yourself. BUT go have a look at how some dump sites are being run 'cos that's where your rubbish ends up ultimately.

i say chuck your empty "sachet" in the great big giant "ocean"

edit: rather recycle your stuff or be less wasteful in the 1st place. THEN you're contributing.
