We have Freedom of Speech in our constitution......viva the New  SA
Watch out' date=' you might get slapped for saying that![/quote']

Actually we have Freedom of Expression... so maybe the dudes were expressing themselves?

With great freedom comes great responsibility.  I think...

You would have thought that mountainbiking would give some kind of outlet for their anger, and get them all chilled out.   I blame Epic fever too.  Performance anxiety.

Breath people, breath!

I actually do care. It's not cool for a dude to hit a lady' date=' but in this case she wasnt a lady. She verbally abused these guys. I'm not condoning them hitting her. It's pretty sick actually, but my point is that people should just learn to mind their own business. If some people dont wanna have lights then let them. It's darwin's evolution theory. Let them worry about the accidents they might have. Same story with helmets. I often see people without them at tokai. why should I go  and tell them to put one on? who cares. If they fall and get brain damaged then it's one less moron on the face of the planet.
really, you people just stress too much and carry on about the tiniest bull.

Ya think it's just a teensey bit possible that we don't have the full story here & shouldn't go riding into battle less than half dressed?

Ahhh but it's the Hub so we believe what we want to & off we go for 10 pages or more - all good fun.

Me? I doubt one F word would lead guys to chase & hit a woman.

Was there a chase? Was there a woman? Why are we here? Where are we going?

I think Nix is a straight up lady' date=' but this isn't her story either.

Why get excited?

Good question Joe.

I think the ten or so pages is more to do with the immediate response from bustthe and not so much over anything else.

Boy oh Boy, sounds like there's a lot of people here who need some serious anger management.

Forget the "lady" part for a bit' date=' don't hit a woman! Full stop, theres no debate about it.

[/quote']

Agreed. Don't go around policing random strangers. Full stop. (unless of course you are actually the police, then by all means, go wild...)

She wasn't policing, she made a comment, very crudely yeah and not really exscusable. However their reaction completely superseded the situation and was just cowardly on their part.

Two 'manne' ganging up on a lone woman/lady, because she didn't mind her own business and used foul language? Please man, completely pathetic!

Road rage on a bicycle!!!!

Goodness - If this is on a bicycle, then car road rage is pretty scary.

There is too much anger out there.

Watch yourselves - its f&^%ing dangerous out there. Anticipate the worst and try to not provoke the fire. Unless you are prepared for  consequences.

Cyclists should not turn on other cyclists.

Men should not hit women' date=' and visa versa (before I get accused of reverse sexism)

And we ALL must respect the rules of the road and stay alive.

As someone said to me the other day "don't cry when a car hits you"

if you are doing something wrong, expect to be called up for it. so what take it like a man/woman/person/alien.

Accept responsibility for yourself and your actions.

I do find some comments in this thread interesting - I'd always thought it was wrong to respond to hit someone... regardless of gender..

and

I think one of the basic points was regarding the endangerment of Nix's friends safety.  I've seen plenty idjits without lights in the morning going up Constantia Nek etc.  They can do what they like (ref Darwin!) but I also get really upset when one of them is riding in my slipstream hiding my blinking rear light.....  that road is narrow and bloody very dark, I want to be as visible as possible.  Resorting to swearing doesn't solve the problem agreed, but one shouldn't have to suffer abuse for pointing something like that.

You know why there are plenty of a**holes in this country who don't obey the rules and do things like hit woman. It is because there is not enough social pressure. We cannot rely on our authorities to solve our problems, social pressure is practiced in nearly all the 1st world countries and it works. I think she did well to ask them where their lights were, definitely not swear, but the lights is the point. We got enough deaths, accidents and poor reputations. We need more social pressure.

As for a guy hitting a woman. If I ever see that sh*t on my street I will take a baseball bat to his head.

If you can find out who these guys are I am sure I have some buds in your area who would love to slap them around.

But point out that the rider behind you is blocking visibility and ask him to either pass of fall back. Yes, those guys are dumb a$$es for hitting a woman.

Q: Would they have slapped her if she didn't comment on the lack of lights on their bikes and just let them pass?

it is illegal for anyone to operate any vehicle (that includes bicycle) after dark without lights.

it is also illegal to attack a person.

if you feel that a person (civilian) has no right to point out the first to someone trangressing the law then i guess you feel that no-one should try to protect someone being attacked. that makes you a pretty sick individual and party to the crime - evil thrives where good men do nothing.

yes, she was wrong for swearing. no one is denying that. however the reaction was way over the top and the title of this thread is quite correct by referring to it as "deplorable"

Lady: Hi there guys, would you mind riding up front please. You blocking my rear light (lady smiles).

2 savage men: Sure. See you riding alone.

Lady: mmmm, recovery ride.

2 savage men: cool. Mind if we escort you till we part ways?

Lady: Sure as long as you ride up front. You guys should really consider getting lights.

2 savage men: Good idea, will shop for a set ASAP. Which is a good brand to get?

blah blah ..made new friends and live happily ever after.

One should - perhaps - also remember that the slapped cyclist did not use language more foul than what is used on this very hub, every day.

TNT1's brand of repartee has somehow initiated its own thread during the course of this week, I might add.

Reminds me of a song of the the teddy bear's picnic:

If you go out on your bike today

You're in for a big surprize

If you go out on your bike today

You better have all your lights

For every idiot that ever did ride

Will slap you around, theres no wear to hide

Cause every day the idiots are out to be stuuuuuupid.
