Can someone please assist in offering advice on how to clean the tube attached to the bladder in a CamelBak - without buying the ridiculously-priced R150 brush-ended worm with the CamelBal logo on it?

I need to get rid of the toxic sludge-like algae inside there (yea - should not have put energy drink in there, I know), but for the life of me cannot justify paying that kind of money for a piece of curtain railing with bristles at the end?

Is there an easy (existing product at a cheaper price) way, or must I embark on a visit to Builders' Warehouse to see if I can duplicate CamelBak's effort?

Use a gear cable, thread the barrel end through the tube, wrap a bit of cloth around the barrel and pull it back out, repeat a few times and it will be as good as new. Just make sure that you dont use too much cloth on the end.

fill bladder with miltons and leave overnight to sterilise, lift the bladder high up and sqeeze nozzel to drain into sink. Repeat a few times with clean water.

I put energy drink in my Hydrapak and never had problems with algea or any black stuff. All I do is run hot water through the tube and and ll is okey.

Best tip mate is to clean and rinse your bladder, tube and valve after every ride with sunlight liquid.

Then you can use energy drink and never have a problem

Not a great idea. The tube has a plastic lining which is supposed to prevent the gunge growth. If you try and pull a cloth through the tube there is a good posibility that you will destroy the lining bond with the tube and stuff the whole thing with itself. Use plain jik and water, why waste money on overpriced Miltons when a week solution of Jik and water will do the job.

If Im not mistaken It also said something about not using chemicals on it. Jik is strong bru, and It wil stain some packs If to strong a mix is used.

secondly ... If you have "gunge" buildup in your tube, the plastic lining isnt working now is it...Wink

We do the Milton vibe on our bottles and camelbaks- no issues yet. I find the Milton tablets are easier to use than the bottle of Milton that you need to measure etc.

Try soaking the tube in Milton overnight- might also help
