I also fail to see the issue, had the same to comment as Willehond, that part of the N1 is not illegal. As far as hugging the truck, I dont let that oppurtunity let me by, just hope the truck lights work and you dont hit part of an 18 wheeler tyre burst.

I also motor pace at every oppurtunity, as I recon that better training you cannot get.  When I started riding trucks were not as powerful as to-day so the a chance  came with almost every ride. These days trucks are too fast and I am too slow ...

Forget about 'Chuck, The Hof and Vernon Koekemoer', down in the Cape the MTB's drop roadies, and then gets on the highway and gives an old truck a little push! It slowed him down to only 40kmh but i'm sure he was soon back up to speedCool

What a poser, nice bike on the road behind a bike wearing Assos rods. Dude get a life and get off road you wanna be MTB'er, real MTB'ers would be hitting the single track!!!

Reminds me of a good old story.

My friend lives in Howick just past the karkloof, he once tailed a truck as he climbed onto road, the truck driver didn't see him so made nothing of it.

The truck nearly towed him 4km and reaching speeds 50km/h+, so when the truck hit a hill, my friend was in the top gear and slipped streamed past the truck on the hill, can you imagine the truck drivers face when past on a hill by a MTB.LOL

I beg to differ mdk' date=' that is not illegal.  This is the bit where the N1 is no longer a motorway and bikes are allowed!!!  Once you reach Paardeneiland you are allowed a bike. I used to commute this bit often.

Being motorpaced by a truck is pretty stupid, but I have loads of mates who do it.  I think they are nuts, but whatever floats your boat...

The rest of you get off your high horses and get on your bikes.  Stop moaning and go train!!! [/quote'] Williehond, I said zip about the legality of the situation and the issue  is justy as you stated - pretty stupid.Angry

I know of guys who use to motorpace trucks from Hilton, down to PMB. These old boys use to do this on track bikes.

Fair point. You didn't say it directly, but I get the feeling from some replies that the mention of "on the N1" could have been misleading.

Agree that it's pretty dumbass stoopid.
