At the beginning of this year - after seeing the awesome respray's by CycleArt on The Hub I asked my LBS on the West Rand to get them to respray my steel frame Daccordi.  After charging me A LOT more than I expected (equivalent to the value of the bike!!) - I went to collect my machine.  The paint job was shocking to say the least.  There are fingerprint marks embedded in the paint (could only have happened when the paint was wet - but they're blaming Eben's guys at the LBS, the paint was touched up after the job with a different shade of red (at the downtube shifters) and they delivered the frame with paint chipped off the frame.

I'm really sorry I asked them to touch my classic - If anything goes wrong they blame the LBS - crap in my opinion.  It's now been 4 months and they haven't even had the decency to go and witness my complaint at Eben's shop.

In your opinion do I make a scene or do I accept this and walk away after having paid them their exhorbitant fee??

Sorry to hear about this and IMHO this is not like Cycle Art!! Have you spoken to Cliff directly and tried to sort it out? I suggest you go this route.

You must be one in 1,000,000 that's not happy!

I work with the 2k paint that cycleart should be using on a bike frame, and let me tell you that fingerprints only happen if the frame is handled when the paint is still wet or soft. I have painted one or two bike frames for myself, and have the fingerprints in place to prove it.

Cycleart should never have delivered a frame back to your LBS with soft paint. They are supposed to be the experts, they should know better.

By the way, 2K paint has a drying time of about 4 hours on a hot day, but if it is cold, it can take twice as long before you can handle it. Worst case scenario: leave it overnight before you can handle it. How long did they have the bike first time round? Did they leave it for the last minute?

No idea - When they deliver the frame back to the LBS I would assume that it's ready to be handled in the rebuilding process - It wasn't a complex paint job - plain old Fire-Engine red with white decals....

That means there are +- 6300 unhappy customers... I'm tired of bad servicing in SA. So if it were me i'll take them head on.

I'm pretty sure it's a first. I'd be pretty p!ssed off if I paid good money for a spray and it's been messed up, either by the LBS or the sprayer.

I had more than one bike done by cycleart and not once had complaint . How did they charge you a lot more than expected , did you not get a quote ? If not then you could not have expectations of what you should be paying ?

Sorry , but flame me, or hate me , do what you want to do.

There is another side to this story,  Lillian or Cliff would not just leave this to fester.  I would like to hear the other side of this story, as I believe this is a one sided story at the moment.

I had my bike done by cycle art and I am very happy with it....

With me Cliff called me immediatly when he delivered the bike to my LBS and told me that he checked the bike with the guys to check that there was no chips on the bike....

he did not deliver my bike untill be was 100% sure the paint was dry....

So its a 1st for cycleart.....

If someone knows Cliff? Best they call and let's hear his side, I was just about to send my Tandem off for a bit of a personalised spray...now I'll wait and see the outcome.
