amoryns Posted July 4, 2007 Share So, has the Epic become over rated?
Tumbleweed Posted July 4, 2007 Share i'm starting to think so. i entered the lottery for the 2008 race, but, on reflection, am not that bummed that i didn't make it. pricey. over-hyped. got into mtb to get away from the madding crowds, not to be a lemming. mrmed Posted July 4, 2007 Share This is amazing. I've never heard such nonsense. I've been trying to get into the Sani2C for 3 years and have never said it's over-rated, when I've been number 100 on the waiting list. If it was over-rated it wouldn't be over subscribed 1 - 10 (this years Cape Epic lottery figures). As for pricey, go get a life, R13 500-00 for 9 days, is a similar price (and cheaper) than a lot of other multi-stage MTB races. This is clearly a case of sour grapes. At least one good thing, seen as how most people think it's over-rated they won't try to get in for 2009 which will leave the door open for me. Brandon Els Posted July 4, 2007 Share Its put mountain biking in South Africa at the centre stage of world mountain biking. I travel to 5 bike shows a year in the East, Europe and USA - the number one thing people want to talk about is the Cape-Epic. 6 of the top 10 UCI ranked mountain bikers last year?? I say well done to all involved with the Epic. Showing the world that South Africa rocks!!

Tumbleweed Posted July 4, 2007 Share mrmed, hope you have fun. also hope you get the t-shirt then everyone can know that you're not the sour grapes type like me. that you persevere. get a life? yup, ok, i will. like the thousands of others who need to say they finished one silly race to justify themselves as a cyclist. holy roller2007-07-04 13:04:
butafly Posted July 4, 2007 Share the organisers aren't stupid - they are creating a demand to justify pushing the price up. but just think about this - all the "development riders" that are "invited" ride for free so that no-one can point fingers that the event is elitist. Willehond Posted July 4, 2007 Share No, not over rated, but definitely over subscribed! Lots of hype, but it is truly world class. SOOOO wish I had a chance. Well, I might have a50/50 chance, but it means I will have to wrestle PokerFace for it and it might just ruin the friendship. Don't thin the Epic is worth that much!!! Plus the budget is going to HURT!
niterider Posted July 4, 2007 Share Definitely not over-rated. By far the best organised and most intense event I've ever participated in. Am I bummed I didn't get in for 2008? Yes. Am I relieved? Yes.
scotty Posted July 5, 2007 Share Not overated in my opinion, but ability to multiple vote will skew the results.
Thug Posted July 5, 2007 Share In my opinion it's definitely not overated. It's one of the few worthwhile multi-day mtb races.

Red Zone Posted July 5, 2007 Share No way is the Epic overrated, it has got to be the best MTB event in SA. Only if you havn't done it could you think that it is overrated.
