Anyone know where i can buy a good quality pedal spanner? (15mm with narrow head)

Bought a fancy combo spanner and allenkey tool from cyclelab on friday and promptly snapped the head off the spanner when attempting to take off my pedals!!!

I reckon steel should be stronger than me so think maybe the tool is not up to the task.

silly question possibly, but are you sure you were turning the spanner in the right direction?

Even if the pedals have been on for a while, the torque needed to remove should not be too high and they should come off reasonable easily. However, the one pedal (I need to stand next to the bike to figure out which one) releases in the opposite direction to "norml" and it would be easy to keep tightening it to the point of snapping a (poor) spanner.

LBS.

But I've always just used a 15mm "real" spanner, and never had a problem.

Some pedals are also designed to take an Allen key in the pedal spindle.

The easy way to remember this is "back off!".

With the arm of the spanner extending upwards from the pedal spindle, push towards the back of the bike to take the pedal off.

And never take the one you first un-wrench the whole way off, you may need it for leverage to take the other one off.

My Parktool BBQ set is equiped with a pedal spanner and one hell of a handle. But I use a BBB allen key made specifically for pedals and has a nice long rubber coated handle. You can use it to remove you freewheel aswell.

Thanks guys for all the advice. Yes, i was turning the correct way and that advice regarding always pulling towards the back of the bike (handle up) is correct.

Reckon will need to return said broken tool and try to find the BBB/Park/Pedros ones.

I bought an Xact one from Pro Cylces for cheap. Nice long rubber coated handle, size 15. Does the job nicely. Managed to remove some frozen pedals off my old Dale quite easily. Cost less than 100 bucks.

No need for fancy bike tools, go to a hardware store Bulders Warehouse or so and buy a gedore spanner, you wont brake it, if you do return it for a new one.

Does a gedore spanner fit into the narrow gap between the pedal and the crank. My standard spanners are too thick.
