I collected my new ss this morning.

Pedals will be swopped for my time atac ones and the cranks are also temporary.

I went for the silverback as I like the polished finish and the entire drivetrain( XT 2 x 10) could be donated to our other Santa Cruz Superlight

Looks flipping nice!

Just look at getting a proper SS front blade and rear cog in the future without any ramps on it ..... rather er on the safe side, or so I have discovered from painful first hand experience.

Why the half link chain...?

I believe that it's easier to tension?

Doesn't make it easier, just improves your chances of finding that "magic gear". Without a mechanical way to create or release tension, it's actually quite difficult to get the tension right.

Many will also attest to the fact that though you may find that magic gear, it does not last very long, as the chain wears (note, wear, not stretch).

My experience with half links is that they wear or "stretch" more than a normal chain, not sure if it's stretch due to the side plates straightening out, or just poor quality of the chains I've used and therefore wearing quicker, but I find myself tensioning quite often.

If it's for finding the magic gear, rather use a single half link on a normal chain.

Disclaimer: The above is based on my experience, no scientific evidence to back my opinion... :)
