Intially went from 26" full suss to 29" htail, loved it.

Now have both and are equal amounts of fun.

For one day bend the limits take the hardtail and when you go multi day stages racing take softail - a full suss 29er is sooooooooooooooo comfy.

If you only can have one then a 29er htail is good :D

Had a Scott Scale 29 elite as a demo bike for a weekend. It was awesome. Chows corrugations as if they arent there. Really very impressed with the bike.

Do you prefer your 29er ht over your 26er full suss?

"Has anybody moved from a 26" SS to a 29" SS ... curious to know how this faired?"

Hi Hairy.

I only had a 26" SS for a short while before I changed to a 29"SS. The 29" is much better. With Single Speed you need momentum to get over stuff, and the big wheels makes it so much easier. Looking at my times for the same route the 29" is faster. Because its better over obstacles I have managed to keep the same gearing i.e. 32/16 on my 29er, hence the bike is faster.

Oh and with the bigger wheels and tyres the Rigid fork is not as "rigid" as with the 26"

Hope this helps

I have an 2009 Giant Anthem 26" and an Anthem 29". What was quite interesting is that the 29er is about 1.5Kgs ligter. (according to the wife's bathroom scale) I am still getting used to the gears, (9spd vs 10spd) and the ratios feel different. I like it, but I find it is not THAT much different. I think on technical stuff the 26er might be better, it feels a bit more nimble. But I am still getting used to it, so my opionion might change. What bugs me most about the 29er is the manuals! The 26er front wheel comes up easy, but the 29er you have to put some effort into it!

What size frame? I am still playing with my 29er. What is your weight and at what pressure are you running your rear shock? I found the 29er to be much better than my 26" Merida 96 when climbing. Must still get used to the susspension as it is much more active than the Merida. Even though I still don't use close to the full travel.
