Stuff you can do when the wind blows that will not be so kark:

Find a hill with a tailwind and do some repeats - lots of these in the Black Hill / Red Hill area. You'll feel like Pantani on crack going up, and pedalling your way down is a novelty.

Ride your mtb in Tokai - not so much with the blasting beneath the forest canopy

Take your wild card and ride to Cape Point lighthouse - you'll feel like you have conquered Everest when you get there, and you can freewheel home at 50km/h

Last resort - go to a spinning class

Any more suggestions?

Move to Jozi, like I did to get away from the k@k weather. That was 18 years ago. Nothing has changed....

This is an extreme solution.. my view is the wind can't blow forever, whereas jhb can and does.

Take up windsports. You won't believe how excited we all get when its like this-the other day the entire 7 day windguru forecast for cape point was pink in colour(25kts plus). Unheard of

Move to Stellenbosch! The wind never blows here and if you pick your route correctly you can get an almost windless ride in anyday. :)

Jonkershoek...5km headwind and 5km tailwind coming back....cycled that 10km loop in 23min the other day due to having a nice tail wind...i hate those hot mountain winds.

I will rather cycle in the wind than moving to Joburg

finally missioned out, and still in the neighbourhood when the front was almost blown out from under me. Got a bit of a fright tbh.. :D Around, seapoint to camps bay, up to kloofnek via The Glen. Coming down Kloofnek was actually pretty sketch in this wind, gusts threatening to rip that front wheel out from under me. quite interesting <_<

but yeah, headwinds made mountains out of molehills :P

I think the wind will blow itself out and we will have a hot as hell jan/feb and then the winds will pick up again in time for the funride.

Most evenings the wind has been dying down totally like tonight......how about night rides?

Im going to attack the redroute tomorrow morning. its going to be wet and snotty, Ita about time I have a liedown. I'll report back about monorails gripping on wet routes (there seem to be a few guys that beleve you find tires other than metal spikes that grip to routes)

Johannesburg - The South African Weather Service has forecast that the strong, gusting south-easterly winds currently being experienced will persist until the end of the week and are only expected to ease off late on Saturday, the City of Cape Town said on Wednesday.

Head into Tokai Forest.... The trees shelter you from the wind and makes for a very pleasant ride :)

This morning was nogal lekka - windspeed okay.

It's those gusts that is risky for the bike rider. Windguru also reflects the gust speeds which is cool!

Sunday morning is gonna be a beauty.

True ... I was quite shocked when I went for a ride on Tuesday. Suddenly I was riding in some other place, or at least that's what it looked like. Didn't recognise some of the jeep track. But the wind was pumping and even in the exposed areas I didn't feel it. Not sure how long it will stay that way with all the tree felling they are doing. I can understand why they are doing it, but I still don't want them to do it. Riding some single track through the forest it awesome :)
