Crasher. are you going to service my bike once you have this awesome stand? or are you just over indulging now?

Hmmmm maybe..I was actually thinking of putting the stand in the wife's lounge with bike attatched its so cold and dark in the garage ;)

I am tired of battling without a stand so thought I deserved one along with a track pump and pressure gauge and scale and and... I hate CRC I tried to stay away but theres an evil force drawing me back :D

How is that Ralpf on the front end?

I've been through a lot of stands. Most recent ones I've owned are Pedro's, Park, Topeak and Strides.

I hated the Pedro's. It was heavy, counter-intuitive and had a swing mechanism that caused blood blisters to unsuspecting users. Eina. It was made of steel and not really suitable for washing bikes on. It would rust.

The Park had a great clamp but horrible base. Sold that. However, I know they've discontinued that base and one with three sturdy legs should be worthwhile.

The Topeak is great. Made of alu and great for washing bikes. A bit flimsy in the neck for really heavy bikes like those Dirt Jump and Downhill bikes. The scale is a waste of time in my opinion but lots of people seem to like it. I just don't think it is worth the extra money for the scale.

Then, my most recent favourite is the Strides stand. Made in ZA and very sturdy. Great value for money too.

Park Tool PRS - 20

Got mine locally for around R1500 two years ago. But Speak to Johan Bornman, he makes and sells a very similar stand at a very reasonable price.

I did look at that one it has nice features I was just unsure as I wanted the option to be able to hold the bike with both wheels on when cleaning without doubt it must give you a solid base to work off

Thanks Zaskar

I'm using one of these:

It's very sturdy and the wide base makes it stable. It's also aluminium, so rust and water are not an issue.

The only downside I have is that the frame clamp is not really suited to very heavy wrenching (e.g. fighting with a stuck BB). I think this would be a problem with any stand using a similar clamp. Something like the Park Tool PRS - 20 Zaskar posted would be more suitable in this case.

I have a Topeak Two-up-tune-up stand, so you can hang your bikes on them in the garage to save space or just in the bike room, quite lekka solid. But not out and out a Mechanics stand, more of a multiperpose unit.

If its just for odd job's on your and your mates bike's, I have made an additional bracket (piece of square tubing cut at angle with countersunk screw in the top and normal coach bolt in the bottom) and bolted it to my workbench and I place my old "holdfast" (one that bikes hang on top tuble) bike rack in there and it works fine for me.

Probly not good enough if you are running a bike shop but.

Cost me nothing.

Just an idea.

I have one of the Park Tool PRS20 stands.

One of the best pieces of equipment I own.

Be warned, if you have 20mm or 15mm front thru axles...

Park Tool has an adapter for the thru axles, but could not find a local store / shop / agent that brings in that item.

So, I had one made at an engineering Co, and GREAT!!!

Removing one of the wheels is NOT such a big issue for me, but know about that before you buy.
