Does It Make A Difference... Really?

Dunno what it is called. Those sticky strips on the nose of some athletes.

For now, I call it "nose flarers" that presumably optimizes the intake of air...

Who here uses them?

And what is the review, please?

Or is it another marketing trick?

They were big in the early ninetees and I think a few boks wore them in the 1995 World Cup however the fact that they more or less went of the radar tells me it did not really give any benefit to the athletes.

However you still get some people using it.

There was a time a lot of guys wore the anti glare strip below their eyes as well. These days you only see Chandarpaul of the West Indies with it.

I think it is something to do with flared nostrils making you look intimidating - just ask the guys in Pamploma at the bull run - when you see one of those bulls baring down at you at full tilt with its flared nostrils, its gotta be pretty intimidating.

and if thats not the reason, then i am seconding WP's suggestion that it is a ploy by Power Balance

 :D :P

Hmm, I dont know, the theory sounds plausible and I tried them a few times on some ultra marathons - I cant say I went any faster, or felt any real differance. Maybe these things have a noticable effect at the very top level of endurance sports where any kind of legal aid can mean the differance of seconds and a win, but for us plonkers in the middle seconds mean squat, I am looking for hours.

Wow those thing have been around for ages!

I used them for a while when playing soccer, they "pull" your nostrils open to help your breathing. Cant say they did too much for me but it was fun trying.

I think they are also used to help guys who snore at night.

If you get a free pack somewhere go for it, don't think they are worth parting with yuor own hard earned cash.

I think you can buy a combo package from Verimark. Powerbalance band, compression socks, nose flarer, VO2 Max stuff and they will throw in excersise in a bottle for free. I am not too sure if they still have the 29" special running ;)

Haven't seen it lately...

Did you evva see pro -_- cyclists use it?

Yeah, Riis... I seen some others too, forget who though.

For what it's worth,I have used em when racing and they made a difference for me.

We got them in a ARGUS race pack once. It was more a irritation though. Think it will only work on whitey or umlungu noses though.

I think Alberto used one on some of the mountain stages in the tour this year, I seem to recall wondering about it. Maybe google a few pics.
