Always used squirt. My last buy was motorex(as recommended by tread magazine I think).

Going back to squirt. Don't care if they say it doesn't last long, but my drivetrain is just so much cleaner with squirt. After one long ride with motorex everything is full of black oil and don't even try to touch the chain.

Squirt is also super easy to apply to the chain. I'm currently using a syringe with a needle to apply the motorex, otherwise half of it lands on the floor.

Squirt all the way, the guy who developed it is actually one of my customers. Very interesting to hear about how it’s tested and improved over the years. In America they are getting alot of suppliers stocking it now.

Squirt for me, one big bottle at home and one dinky bottle in my camelbak. The majority of my riding is on dry and dusty roads/paths, personally I avoid mud and gunk.

How many people apply lube during their ride at at how many K's into your ride?

You can't really take a lube that needs to "dry" first with you on a ride. Most waxes requires a period of about 30 minutes for the "carrier" liquid to evaporate first before you go for a ride.

Firstly I like that TREAD article as it gets to the point that thousands of threads on the cycling internet continue to debate.

One important thing is to lube the right part of the chain - too many lube noobs start out by lubing the entire chain, especially the outside - the part that does not care about lube but loves to gather all the muck.

I lube each roller with great patience, wipe the chain, then wipe again and for good luck give it one more wipe. The next morning I wipe it again. Chain stays clean on the outside but all the goodness has gotten time to get to the inside. Think of it as inner beauty for chains, its what on the inside that counts.

I am sure this question has been raised a couple of times on the hub, but let's see which lubes are better than others. I ride both on and off road events and has tried various products to satisfy my quest for the best. Two lubes have both proved to be really good, Rock 'n Roll Gold and Purple Extreme. Rock 'n Roll keeps the chain lubricated for longer, but requires a wipe after a ride or two, as it tends to make the chain black. Purple Extreme keeps the chain sqeaky clean, almost to the point where one wonders if the chain is lubricated at all. A long lasting lube is Chain L, if you can handle the splattering all over your bike. It is rather thick, and the container needs to be warmed-up in boiling water to apply evenly, but requires a lot of effort to wipe down before your ride. This lube is in my opinion good for training bikes which are not used off road, as it is a dust collector. I have made a mixture between Rock 'n Roll and Chain L which is easier to apply than neat Chain L and it gives a very smooth ride and shifting. Because I am yet to find the perfect lube for all my applications, I use three lubes as follows: Purple Extreme on my racing road bike, Rock 'n Roll on my mtb, and Chain L / Rock 'n Roll mix on my training road bike.

What is your lube of choice?

Atraut, where did you get the Purple Extreme? I have been using Squirt and White Lightning for years and wouldn't mind giving Purple Extreme a bash (after your assesment).
