What sets Bike Shops apart...

So here is the story:

I discovered on the weekend that my 3 month old Easton wheelset was rubbing on the back brake when I cornered i.e. the rear wheel is flexing when at an angle, causing the brake to rub.

So I called up the shop where I bought the wheels from (not my Local) and the woman on the phone immediately said it must be my fault as I have must have hit a pothole or something. They said I can bring it in for them to fix. Angry

So this morning I took the wheel into the local, who had a look, asked some questions and promptly got on the phone to omnico who said they must send the wheel in to be repaired. My local then also lent me a rear wheelClap, although very heavy and nowhere near my eastons, the gesture was there as they wanted to ensure that I could keep training. Plus they moved the cassette and tyre/tube to said wheel.

Now, if there was ever doubt as to why you should support your LBS, let this be a lesson - your LBS will look after you and building up the relationship is worth more than the saving made going somewhere else!

BTW - I didn't buy the wheels at the other shop based on price - they were the only shop that had stock and I needed to purchase asap.

If you receive good service from a Cycle Shop... Go mention their name.

they deserve it !!!!

Good point Pops, but I dont know how much more good exposure Linden Cycles can take... It's hard to find a bad post about them

I fully agree... building that relationship with your LBS is worth a lot more than a little saving here or there.

yea i was thinking about this topic yesterday before some cars decide to push me off the road. How many bike shops are fair and how many just try to make a quick buck. I had a problem with my MB back wheel so i sent it in to be fixed. then it comes back with missing bearings. then i take it back to fixed. then i noticed a clank in the wheel when i cycle like something is knocking. i take it back to be fixed only to be told the next day my hub is cranked and its letting the grease out and thats whats makin the noise and thats why the wheel is loose.

CRAP! took it to a friends bike shop and he opened it up and replaced the axcel and problem fixed. no more CLANKING from the wheel COST R30.

Previous shop cost R200 plus advice to build a new wheel.

Tour de Frans, when i walk in there i feel like Norm from cheers. Thumbs%20Up

Plenty of times i've botched up some home job and they've fixed it n/c and swopped parts i bought elsewhere that were not quite right while they have a small restaurant with refreshments to relax in while waiting. Fixed my bike from an automatic (similiar to Sammajoors problem) back to a manual, again n/c.

wonduhboy, why am i NOT SURPRISED at the service you got from your lbs???? it's quite simple... if you want good service with a smile go to "home away from home" cos that's what they are. it's no secret why they are always busy. LINDEN CYCLES ARE THE BEST Clap

Wink (yep, they are my No 1 choice in LBS too)

It is actually sad that we have to "praise" shops for giving good service.

I disagree. If we praise those shops, they know that their efforts don't go unoticed. It also enspires those with poor service to get their acts together.

Eugene, don't I pay for that service.  Paying R3500 for a set of wheels only to be told that it's YOUR fault that the spokes snapped........

In bike shops defence - how often do cyclists come in and say I was JRA and such and such broke/stopped working etc. when it's quite obvious that they have fallen or done something stoopid?

Guess that is why a good relationship is so important, they will know where/what kind of riding you do, how well you look after your bike and whether you can do routine/advanced maintenance or are just a hacker!

Having said that an immediate 'it must be your fault' without some discussion about how it happened is never acceptable in my opinion!
