  1. would honestly not wast your time at the mtn bike park, as RedRover said if you looking for a good 3-4 hours I would check out Teak or Groenies in PTA. Im an ex Durban/PMB boy, would be happy to show you either place, stay in fourways myself. Wont manage a long ride though! been off the bike for a few months and just getting back on now, but can point to in right direction!
  2. I had the same problem, I then started importing steak from a butcher in Spain who is well known in the road cycling circles. great stuff I must admit. I have a steak roll on low GI bread with some peanut butter souce before the race and then just put some steak slices in a Ziploc bag and nibble on them during the race. oh yes, almost forgot, I have a mate who lives in the America states of United and he sent me some energy gel/ carb loader stuff that is apparently very popular amongst pro cyclist, it is even rumored to have been used by a certain 7 time tdf winner. The only thing is you have to administer it through a "drip" type bag that feeds directly into your vein, I don’t really like needles so have only used it a few times but seems to work great. But on more humorous side: I was having the same issues, and was advised by a guy who does IM to eat early to avoid the bonk. I was also bonking around 40-45km in and would normally start my eating around then as well. I then started eating at about 25km in and kept having small amounts the entire ride. (use those mcnabs energy bars) Another thing I realized was that my training rides averaged 45km and would only throw in a longer ride once or twice a month. I then started including a 5+ hour ride once a week and felt a massive difference at marathons.
  3. That is beautiful!
  4. That's nothing!!! I get to drive 2 hours with 1000 000 other people who can't drive to site, then I get to sit in front of a computer for anything from 8 to 10 hours and then drive 2 hours home with the same 1000 000 idiots from my drive this mornig......ok you win
  5. yo! sorry to hear this guys, not cool at all. think the idea about getting carte blanche or some other media involved is really good, the extent of these highjacking's needs to be made known now.
  6. piece of Art that
  7. cyclelab had treks on special for R10 000, not bad but think as suggested the Momsen will be your best buy

  13. I am by no means a rocket on my bike, but I have had two occasions at Groenies where I have had to dive into the bush because of kids coming the wrong way on a trail and more times than I can remember of trails being blocked by kids bikes that have been left in the middle of the singletrack. I am however always polite and will never shout for track, but I have been met with many a mutter and angry look from parents on the trails when trying to pass. It works both ways
  14. one of the best looking bikes out there
  15. well said
  16. hahaha too funny!
  17. "The bike is more than just a rolling billboard for the company aimed at increasing awareness of the need for donors to help childless children around the world" huh?
  18. A mate just got a trek from cyclelab for 15k, I was very impressed with it for the price! I looked around for him for a bike for ages and nothing else I saw offered the same value and it looks really really good.
  19. I have a 29er HT I was very surprised by how comfy it was but agree with what was said above, for stage races and longer marathon type races I think I would go with a full sus. my feeling is that technical rocky downhills will start to take there toll on the legs after a few hours on a HT, even with the "magic, floating" wheels
  20. baby oil!! works wonders, put it on and leave a while, then wipe off, may need to do it a few times but works well
