  1. I sent a letter to Ride magazine explaining to them that we only get the electronic version on the 1st of the month whilst the usual "paper" copy is out almost a week beforehand. They came back and said they are taking it up with Zinio as they ideally want the electronic version out first ! They are hoping to resolve this shortly.
  2. I am a pretty lousy mtb'er but enjoy my Saturday and Sunday morning rides with my mates.I've done races like Addo,Knysna Oyster,K2C etc but am definately a slowbee
  3. A group of us from Port Elizabeth did the ARGUS last year for "Bobs for boots".Bob Skinstad did the ride as well but he battled somewhat ...hee hee.The money that was raised was to help give a pair of shoes to schoolchildren. We all wore bib shorts and jerseys especially designed for the ride.If my memory serves me correct,we raised around R20 000. This year I have managed to arrange to ride for the Bumble Bee foundation . Their main beneficiary this year is Daniel Holgate who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy. The foundation, with the help of the Den Anker restaurant in the Waterfront Cape Town is hoping to get 200 cyclists, each raising at least R1500.Special BIB shorts and jerseys are being designed for the event. Anyone looking to buy a raffle ticket from me for R50 is welcome to pm me.The main prize will be an IPad 2.
  4. I have ordered a Scott Spark expert carbon dual suspension which will cost around R28 000..... I wish I could go for a hardtail but after 2 spinal fusions I need the extra comfort. I doubt whether you will find a "bad" bike in that price range,it is all about personal choice
  5. My wife did a PB of 6hrs 10mins.. a great achievement considering she had a violent temperature the whole of Saturday night. Her splits were (approx as is my timing) Swim 40mins Cycle 3hr 15mins Run 1hr 55 mins I must say that whilst the organisation was very good the city is rather dirty and paying R250 for your partner to join you at the awards dinner is a total rip off. I heard a lot of complaints around drafting but the main problem is probably due to too many entrants-how do you keep the right distance when there are so many cyclists.Of course there will always be those that will try their luck and cheat. \ Well done to all those that crossed the line-you ARE a (half) IRONMAN
  6. I also got the deal but battled to get to the "payment" page so gave it up as a bad job.I think the idea is a good one if it really does work
  7. All the best to the athletes in East London, the weather is great but the humidity might become a problem. The ocean looks like a dam it is so flat, the newbies will be grateful for this.
  8. RIP....... has someone like the CSA taken the carnage up with the Minister of Transport ! In a number of European cities the motorist is automatically guilty and will get their licence taken away for a period...it is up to the driver to prove otherwise. Vehicles give way to cyclists, as a result ,in a huge way.
  9. Firstly,my wife is quite a bit younger than me and secondly, she is stronger than me on the bike.I wish she would ride with me every now & then ggrrrrrrrrrr
  10. I have no doubt that it is the cost that is keeping cyclists away.Like most events these days,it has become a money spinner.
  11. There is a mtb ride from coast to coast in Scotland, that should be pretty cool.I would also like to do the Tour de Mauritius.& there are some awesome races in the States (Europe has plenty of course). There are also some nice rides in Australia. Crickey, this could mean I have get a 2nd job if I want to do some of these
  12. My wife is looking for a lift from PE to EL on FRiday as I am only able to travel down later on Saturday morning. It would only be herself plus a small bag as I will be taking her bike, wetsuit etc. If anyone is able to help please pm me or email me on selwyn.gill@gmail.com Thanks
  13. We intend spending a week or so around Cape Town after The Argus but would like a great resort where one can road cycle & mtb safely close by! Can anyone offer suggestions please. We won't have our kids with us so don't need activities for them. Thanks
  14. It was probably a "Crackindale" anyway There will always unfortunately be chancers,no matter where you look.
  15. Kallis gets his ton whilst Petersen is not out on 95...score 228/2.What an up & down team they are
  16. RIP.Instead of loafing on their fat backsides catching people going 70 km/hr why don't the cops do some serious police work for a change. How many more cycling relating deaths are we going to have before something is done about it!
  17. Looking forward to a great race....just keep the wind away
  18. Hi,is anyone looking to sell the above bike with average components etc.I am a very average cyclist but after 2 spinals fusions I need comfort & as light as possible. Clearly I don't need a top of the range bike.
  19. Can anyone point me in the right direction to try & get a start time with a charity at the Argus.I know Choc normally have a start time but how do I go about trying to get in with them. I have already entered the race but would like to do something for charity & use their start time. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated
  20. I am in Knysna until this coming Thursday & looking for anyone that might want to join me for the odd ride-either mtb or road.I am not a racing snake, rather a slowbee! Please pm if anyone is keen. Thanks
  21. Thanks to VWSA,we wish we had more support like this
  22. Think his name is Nick Ehlers......
  23. Just heard that one of our local cyclists was hit by a car in Cape Road (Port Elizabeth),close to the Kabega Park police station yesterday ! He was admitted to hospital with a shattered arm and the usual bumps/bruises etc. I am still trying to get a refund of my expenses from the driver that hit me crossing over Strandfontein 6 weeks ago !
  24. RIP.... when will this ever end
