  1. Thanks for this, like the elder statesman telling the younger ones in the peloton not to pp in the peloton.
  2. By the sounds of some reports, it was not just the e-bikes holding people up. But "real mtbers" also. Getting 1000 people to go down a single track into the Umko valley will more than likely have blockages.
  3. Krag, waar is jou einde.
  4. https://road.cc/content/review/27971-shimano-alfine-11-hub-and-shifter This looks like something I would want to put on my commuter when the current drivetrain is kaput. Other than the weight penalty, I cannot see the drawbacks of this compared to a cassette/derailleur setup. Does anyone have first-hand experience with Shimano's internal hub?
  5. Erm, I am not so sure about that. Source?
  6. ja, but we haven't heard their side of the story 😆
  7. ^^ this! The WildAir coverage was helping me get my fix, they seem like lekker "oaks"
  8. TLDR: The organizers' approach sent out in the race brief. "ROUTE CONTROL The Montecasino Classico is run through intersection control by Joburg Metro Police and Mogale City Metro, along with a strong on-road support presence from these entities and static support from SAPS. A total of 102 JMPD officers are on duty and 30 members of the Mogale City Traffic Police. In addition, more than 130 members of our experienced marshal crew, lead by Patrick Smit, are being deployed and 20 motorbike marshals will be managed by the seasoned Craig Bezuidenhout from the Road Rangers. A team of police reservists with experience in intersection control are also being deployed at strategic points. All of these entities are in contact with the Venue Operations Centre (VOC) control room which is set up at Montecasino. The VOC consists of representatives from all the SAPS offices on route, JMPD, Mogale City Metro, Montecasino’s safety officer, JMPD head of events, the event safety officer and the head of our medical crew. The race start towards the Cradle on Witkoppen and Beyers Naude presents quiet roads on a Sunday morning. When we pass Zandrift it’s also still early morning on a Sunday with little traffic. SAPS will have a presence at Zandrift though as a precautionary measure. Road users now generally avoid the roads in the Cradle on a Sunday because it’s become known as a cycling area. Most clubs that ride in the Cradle on a Sunday have seen a number of their riders entered, so most cyclists in the Cradle will be part of the race on race day. The busier sections in the final 10km on Malibongwe and Witkoppen Roads have formed the main topic of our JOC meetings and JMPD and SAPS are employing a large personnel base on this section and diverting traffic wherever possible. The route on this section is on double laned roads, which naturally creates a protected and flowing left hand lane passage for cyclists on race day. Awareness signage has been erected on the race route and all media channels have been informed to include the race in their traffic advisories. We utilise the same blueprint as we implemented with the Emperors Palace Classic, and the key to this is having double laned roads in busy areas to ensure the safe flow of the race along with normal traffic flow."
  9. woah woah woah, what do you mean it is only valid on subscription...
  10. https://www.builders.co.za/Fasteners-Fixtures-%26-Security/Tapes-Seal-Strips-%26-Bubble-Wrap/Tapes-General/Sellotape-Aluminium-Foil-Tape---Silver-(48mm-x-50m-x-105mm)/p/000000000000163798 I used this and cut it with a hack saw down the middle. This gives you 100m of tape for R160. Works for me.
  11. I used a hack saw to split a roll of the cheaper silver tape. Guess I do not have enough bikes to EVER finish the amount of "rim tape" I know have.
  12. Don't come here with your facts and reasoning! From all the Social Media platforms for MMASTTPBB it is possible to get your fix in (if you want to watch sports, go sports!): Twitter: https://twitter.com/tankwatrek Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tankwatrek Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tankwatrek
  13. By the sounds of it he could be happy to be alive! Still so young, but with those injuries and the operations, I cannot see how he will be a WT rider again. (Please may I be wrong!) Hopefully this does not age well and he does recover fully to add to his already impressive palmarés!
  14. Sheesh, this thread does not bode well. So what you saying is, stay in the front?
  15. This will be one I will consider for my next one. I've lost more saddle bags than one should.
  16. Surely if there is a thread to get @Patchelicious back here, this will be one.
  17. Pretty cool, not sure I want to display to people what is going on in my bag, though!
  18. Love your bike (dreambuild in my mind)! And those 1L “bidons” from Wayne’s gravelbike pics will also fit in your frame, making me love it even more. I have the heavy Jones bars on my commuter: glad you back riding!
  19. I used Fabian's this year for the CTCT for my bike and cannot complain about the service. Was able to drop of the bike and pick up at a LBS. (Even had a cool sticker with my name on) I would definitely recommend this type of transport when travelling and there is a Joggie's or an Elliot's or even Fabian, available. It is less of a hassle compared to flying with your bike in a box, which we also did this year with a friend's bike. Your bike box cannot weigh more than 30kg at weigh-in and we were charge R370 each way as a "handling fee" for the box, regardless of weight. TLDR; I would rather use a bike transport company
  20. Tell him Chris. He could probably own most of us on a unicycle!
  21. But, anywhere within town or not too far away and you should be okay. Just remember you have to go into town the day before to drop of boxes.
