    Gear Ratios

You had me running to the spares box on this one .... 32 on a 110 BCD is one tight fit !!! But it is available for a MTB. Absolutely no idea if this is an option for a road bike.
  2. Arno you can try Louis at Knipe_Racing as well. Almost 10 years ago I came close to buying a SC from them.

    Tour de Worcester

And a web-search shows a 2025 page which then links back to 2024 ... very difficult to get information.
  4. The non-PPA members had an early registration opportunity in March 2025 👍
  5. When those pop-locks act up these fency bikes are but vintage hardtail bikes 😛
  6. Standard lever ? Stil hydraulic though ? Hoping for a solution away from repeated re-bleeding ....
  7. Can you buy a battery for this bike in SA ? Extreme option .... ask a battery service centre to remove the cells, just leave the casing and BMS (battery management system). Then in SA get the battery re.packed ... Suddenly shipping does not sound too bad
  8. Is it possible to swop out the hydraulics for a cable system ? My limited knowledge of these systems suggest that it would not be easy to replace the actuation unit on the shock ....
  9. Much appreciated 👍
  10. There are two remote lock.out "buttons". Right thumb operates the front lockout. One press off the thumb, the button stays in. Second press, the button pops out and the fork is open. The left thumb operates the rear lockout. Except it wont "pop out" .... so the shock remains locked, thus no rear travel. The way the hydraulic housing connects to the shock under the top tube did not help trailside diagnostics .... Almost looks like the left unit is a right side unit mounted upside down ...
  11. Good to be back on the trails 👍
  12. The front seems fine, this time round. The rear lockout decided todays ride will be a hardtail ride ....
  13. A friend's Scalpel is having ongoing issues with the shock lockout. It keeps on getting locked in the open position. After a re-bleed a works for a short time, then acts up again .... How difficult ($$?) is it to replace this with a normal cable lockout ? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. We need a reliable solution for W2W ... @Prince Albert Cycles @MORNE @NotSoBigBen @DieselnDust @BuffsVintageBikes
  14. Too true .... First there was the Camelback Rogue ... LOVE this pack. Then the Mule ... cos you "need" packing space to delayer .... Modified a large backpack for stage racing, adding a hydration pack to what is actually a backpack. Actually works nice. Used the Rogue on longer trailruns a few times .... then a friend brought in a lightweight hicking pack from Decathlon in Europe. NICE !!! Until I saw the benefits of the hicking packs with the hip straps with pockets ....
  15. Hydration packs can turn into a rabit hole quickly .... . 1,5 liter bladder with a single pouch ... perfect on the road, even for long MTB rides. Camelback seems to target this market - GOOD products. . Longer rides starting in chilly winter temperatures .... you soon appreciate the benefits of the Camelback Mule ... just too big for the rest of the year, but the answer if you have to take of layers of clothing .... . Bumpy rides, jumps ... USWE made their mark with special straps to stop the pack bouncing .... . Food during long rides ... top tube bags ... back pockets .... even a spare energy bar in the hydration pack pocket. Each with pro's and cons ... . Runners packs.... simply insane the wide variety available !! Just looking at the overlap .... similar storage on the back, but now you also get a range of pouches on your shoulder straps. I know a couple of cyclists that prefer these packs, simply more versatile Have a look on Decathlon-EUROPE. (sadly their SA side has very limited options) .... you can spend a lot of time deep diving into this topic. Then look on Take.a.Lot for the generic equivalents ... lots of options around R500 .... just check if it comes with a bladder.
  16. Something else to consider .... during 2024 more and more brands went the route of integrated cables and brake hoses. It looks CLEAN And it COSTS when you need a basic service of the steering tube bearings ..... I had to choose between the Merida and the Giant (thats what was in stock at the time, in my price and spec range) .... The Merida looked VERY good with the super clean look .... glad I went for the more traditional cable routing, in frame, but not through the "neck" .... The Merida sizing also seems to be a bit larger than the other makes, so best to test ride one if you decide to go this route.
  17. I am a Shimano fan - disclaimer. I have the 2024 Giant Revolt with 2x12 GRX. @Zebra has the previous model with the 2x11 GRX. Both absolutely brilliant bikes. The final gearing is a function of your legs and your terrain ... I went smaller in front due to bust knees, @Zebra is rocking the original big gears over Chappies every couple of days. Every so often I miss the simplicity of a 1x (my other bikes are all 1x) .... but when the road gets long and the hills get steep .... that granny gear saves my bacon. And when the road points down, MAN, the extra top end of the big ring is LEKKA !!! SRAM vs Shimano .... might as well join a Ranger vs Hilux debate .... or a Merc vs BMW debate ....
  18. Just in case the jury is still out .... GIANT REVOLT 👍

  20. To the park run and back ....
  21. My Santam policy has a "wearable" line item, as an extra to my bicycle insurance. This covers items from my shoes to my helmet, as well as my Garmin watch or Edge, to an agreed maximum value, when out cycling. At home my "all content" covers these items ... will send an email to my broker to make 100%sure
  22. Very true words. Had to nudge my riding buddy on Sunday to stick to the plan and not jump in the car on the way back. Turns out the return ride was much better than the out ride.
  23. Sure we are all looking forward to a set of project photos 😍
  24. People regularly post links here of possibly stolen bikes. A few owners have been re-united with their bikes.
  25. Imagine the fun of 4 bikes and one head unit. Okay, 3 on one head unit and the 4th on the IDT. And just make sure you mix it up, randomly use 1 of the 3 to commute, and record that via a watch .... 1st world problems
