  1. I would hate it if someone else bought me a bike unless I'd dropped a huge hint in what I wanted. Secondly, with present economic conditions and bike availability it might be better to bite the bullet and get the Morewood (that he LOVES riding) upgraded & serviced with some new wheels for approx 10 -12k. If it's a 26" then that choice is a much harder one to make. A 27.5 I'd say...go for it. Thirdly, if I'm looking for a new bike, it's for a valid reason like...I'd like to ride faster or jump further or I'm changing my type of riding (maybe XC to Enduro). A nice pretty "new" bike sounds like fun...but will he love it like he loves his faithful Morewood. (The pretty blonde barmaid always looks prettier than the faithful missus waiting at home)
  2. Unsure if size is critical?? Can you DM the price please... Regards.
  3. Most cyclists use a high carb powder additive supplying quick release "sugars". Others use a rehydrating solution to reduce cramping and replacing minerals lost in the sweat. Others use "Gu" gels (some with caffeine) for that final kick to get you through the last 25km of a race... It's up to you to try out what sounds best for you - on normal training rides so that you can find out what is best for you (and your stomach) rather than experimenting on a race day. Good luck...
  4. I believe you should be looking at a bike with "compliance" or in other words an endurance bike. Forget the stiff robot to robot racer... I bought a Lapierre Xelius a bunch of years ago and it fits the bill for my older bod!
  5. Keep up the good work of those involved in the laborious (and often thankless) job of cleaning up after others...????
  6. Hey, moaners and groaners, why don't the local cycle clubs, on a rotational basis, pick a few members who use these routes regularly to pack a black bag or two (with a gardening glove) to pick up glass and rubbish off the cycle track and leave it on the side of the road. Yes, this could be a schlep...but the schelp of a few will become the joy of many, many others! This is a workable solution. Anyone else offering a solution??

    Medals at events

Even the alternate to medals like the Gears for Ears bottle cap remover or the Route 622 copper bracelet (nice design) goes unused. Someone needs to come up with a rad idea...
  8. I suggest that you hire a bike first of similar specifications (often the shop will have a demo bike) and test out your wrists/hands for one to one and a half hours of the bumping and shaking that you get while riding on a normal MTB track. This should help you figure out what fork night be suitable and if your hands can take the pounding. Road riding might be an option for you...
  9. What determines a good bike is MORE about it's geometry than its wheel size. Most old bikes are more upright and have steeper HA's and that's where they mainly fail as compared to modern relaxed geometry (as compared just to wheel size).
  10. Some good advice so far... Choose a club that accommodates for noobies. As with most clubs (any) it's usually all about fitting in. Go and play golf in your vellies and you might not be accepted by the group! Often your inclusion into the clique within the group will depend on your performance as s cyclist. All the above aside, I still prefer riding on my own but also enjoy riding with the stronger riders in the club even when I get blown off the back after climbing the last monster hill. Lycra pants/shorts have a built in comfort panel that is very necessary. Ride in normal shorts at your own peril....cleated shoes become a must as you advance in skill and want your feet to be securely planted on the pedals. Good luck with your riding....and keep left...flashing lights on your bike is a must. Stay Safe!
  11. It's possible that the tension in the derailleur cable needs to be adjusted... You might also have a sticky cable (old/ frayed/ rusty) that is clogged with dirt. Sometimes these problems are hard to pinpoint quickly. Make sure the front derailleur is also lubricated and moving freely. Good luck.
  12. Mommy said: Be Nice!!!
  13. A cheap fix is to cut some cardboard pieces out to fit inside your car windows to block the sun. A foldout sunscreen for the front window will keep the temperature down in the car. I often use an old white cloth (cut to size) that I drape over the sun facing windows and tuck them into the doors then close the doors on them. Cheap and easy fix...
  14. A mild hijack - for Matt's attention: What can you do (Admin) when I (buyer) have a written agreement (messages) to purchase an item. The buyer then reneges on the deal. I then give him a low rating. He the spitefully gives me a low rating back (as revenge) making up a cock and bull story (that can be proven as false via the messages sent). What is the RECOURSE??
  15. It sounds like he just isn't taking enough recovery time off. Does he use a watch/GPS unit to monitor his work load and then recovery time needed. A good quality rehydration solution should be used after heavy sessions otherwise essential minerals are depleted. My 90 year old father works out on an indoor bike and a rower and he gets a rehydrate solution after each session. Nobody likes to admit that they are getting older but scaling back on what you used to do is always something that we need to keep in mind...
  16. I've found a saddle clamp, just looking for the seatpost clamp/wedge. Could always borrow one to get another manufactured from it... Let me know if you've got one...?
  17. Thanks for your input... He is in the loop. Just need to get that seatpost clamp in hand or a schematic of it...
  18. Sounds like a great idea...who might have a Wilier Blade 2016??...that I can borrow your seatpost clamp for a couple of days in Durbs..? I can purchase the saddle clamp...found one, just the seatpost wedge/ clamp needed.
  19. ASG (quite difficult to get hold of) have a saddle clamp but not a seatpost! Don't think that they are Wilier agents anymore. Have trawled the net for other sources but absolutely no luck...
  20. Looking by for a Wilier Triestina Blade 2016 saddle clamp and seatpost clamp/ wedge if any triathlete crashed his frame and maybe didn't replace it...?
  21. Parts needed, especially the saddle clamp and the seatpost clamp/ wedge. Maybe someone crashed their frame and didn't replace it??
  22. Ceck out the Apple store for Cadence/ power/ speed sensors apps. See if it brings up anything?
  23. I assume that your watch measures your heart rate so you now need a speed & cadence device (or power & cadence). Unfortunately they don't come cheaply. Find out what devices will sync to your watch and make the purchase and away you go.
  24. Thanks to the kind Hubber who DM'd me. The box will be collected later this afternoon...
  25. Just bought a set of road wheels (without cassette) from a Hubber in Southern JHB area and we need a cardboard wheel box (as local bike shop has none). Will be much appreciated if you have one to give...?
