    Q Rings

My argument has always been the same as Sean's. However, gotta admit: if they're working for Sastre, perhaps we shouldn't write them off as snake oil. However, unless you're cycling for your supper or you feel excessively uncomfortable on your existing setup, I really see no point in buying them, even if they were half their actual price. Anyone know if Sastre uses them on his TT bike too?
  2. Eish! hope he lands it ok. Don't think I'd ever summon up the balls required to do a jump like that.
  3. We tried making bored girl's non-tubeless Kenda Karma tubeless but did not succeed. The air just kept leaking out, I think out of the sidewalls. It is an old tyre though...
  4. Ah the gorilla snot: will we need it for a high-pressure tyre that doesn't have to weather the type of terrain that a MTB does?
  5. So which crazy fan is going to risk his life to salvage the bike? And what do you think it'd be worth on e-bay? Very bad news for JL, but thank goodness he's alright and he got the KOM. Also, a lot more people know who he is now, which can only be good for his future prospects.
  6. Better fire the Caisse d'Epargne team mechanic then If he can't get it right, what chance does your LBS have? Anyway I'm sure the rolling off risk is quite low for SA racing. Can't think of any hills where much braking is necessary. I don't really see the point of tubbies, especially after seeing Willehond's pics of pros racing clinchers. There must be some benefit though if the okes in the tour are still using them.
  7. Ok I know this has been debated before and I think we all know JB's and others' views on this. However, I thought I'd revive the topic seeing as a Caisse d'Epargne rider just rolled his tyre off the rim. And who can forget Joseba Beloki's career-ending crash in the 2003 TDF? What are the supposed advantages for tubbies? Less weight, no pinch flats, lower rolling resistance? With bikes and groupsets as light as they are now, do we really need to save weight on wheels? Is it more important to save "rotational weight" than ordinary weight? Are pinch flats really a concern if you're running the right pressure? Has the lower rolling resistance thing ever been conclusively proven? Disadvantages? Possibility of rolling your tyre of the rim on a downhill? Punctures a pain in the butt, especially if no team car with a spare wheel. Lastly, there is talk of tubeless tyres coming out for road bikes. Do hubbers think this will render all those expensive Boras, Zipps, Lightweights as outdated as downtube shifters?
  8. If I understand the Q correctly, Boeing already has the Shi$mano freewheel body.
  9. Unfortunately not all of us are feeling flush after winning cash and home appliances on the weekend And there is a big difference between being a cheapskate and not falling prey to the commercial predators that feed on gullible racing cyclists.
  10. Yes, but that is no longer a concern for me because I bought Shcrader wheels
  11. I used to buy 60mm Kendas for between R25 and R30. However, I am told that they no longer have any - anywhere in the country. The cheapest 60mm tube I can find is R50 (Continental) . I'm struggling to understand this when an ordinary tube can still be purchased for less than R30. Is the extra 2cm of valve really worth R20? Can anyone help in the quest for a low-cost 60mm tube?
  12. put me down plis.
  13. My financial interest has certainly waned. In fact it's been eliminated. I had money on Ricco
  14. Shamus has great customer service. E-mailed him yesterday about a replacement CX tyre for the one i cut at Walkerville. The response was very fast and helpful.
  15. Want to buy my carbon handlebar plugs? They weigh only 0,1g and are a snip at R599 for a pair. They come in a variety of colours, including "King of Bling" gold.
  16. Hate to say it but "amazing prices" and 690 ZARonts for two frikkin jockey wheels do not belong in the same thread
  17. ? I would love to get my hands on a pair like that ? Ooops' date=' I think I just made a right tit of myself ? Before I boob any further lemme go home ? ? ?[/quote']
  18. what does one of these go for? (the audio device, not the hooters).
  19. ? I smell a little bit of rubber burning in my retail and banking portfolios' date=' but commodities are doing well and now's the time to buy.[/quote'] Eish JB, and I thought you were a contrarian!
  20. haha, good luck finding a volunteer, DR
  21. We have a nice group that leaves from Illovo Tues to Friday.
  22. Is the one at your local garage cheap enough?
  23. There have been several posts here to the effect that normal tyres work fine without tubes. If this is the case, I'd like to know why the tubeless specific tyres are so damn expensive? Is it really a scam, or do we just have to wait for tubeless to come out in cheaper tyres?
  24. I don't know what it was, but they must be very tired to just fall asleep on the road like that
  25. Eish this is bad news for Barlows Soler really made last year's tour; it'll be horrible if he can't perform or pulls out this year. That he should have been at the front is easier said than done. If everyone rode near the front of the peloton, there would be no back.
