  1. After some anxious moments the OFM classic is indeed happening on 3 November. Entries at www.cycleevents.co.za. Will we see you in the Bloemfontein.
  2. Hi Looked at the bike again and saw it has downtube shifter. Did not think they still make those. That would change picture a bit. Would rather look for Gear shifters that is located at the brake hoods.
  3. Hi, It will do the job . Just check size yours should be around 54-56 cm(Meduim) Road bike. I think R3K for that bike is a good deal , you might get something better if you wait around but it is definately not bad deal.
  4. Depending on your age and how fit you were you should see improvements within at least twelve weeks if not before if you ask me. Do you feel that you are training really different from when you did not train alone? Do you push yourself to the point you should according to the program?
  5. Unfortunately will be missing it. Was there all the way from Bloemfontein last year. Maybe one of the reasons I wanted to return is the fact when I crossed the finish line the annoncer asked if he could speak to the young man . Maybe it is race for our older guys as race was won by a vet in my category of 40 plus . Unfortunately petrol price have increased and I will be giving it a skip.
  6. Registrations on the Day I presume. In Middelburg for the weekend but looking for a race so might just drive to PTA for it. Will just have to convince my Wife.

They said that they want to have it more a corporate event after the event this year. Remember something about taking corporate entries/riding for cause up from 5000 to 10000 so that is 5000 less entries available for individuals who want to race.
  8. I know when I did the race last time had the same issue. They informed me that they only look at last three months results and seed according to this. The were willing to push me up to B but not more while I normally race VA now VB. That is concequence of not having seeding races in Free State. But did quite well in B bunch and had a nice race.
  9. Unfortunately not for Bryton. Was hoping to use it as it is quite an effort as I like my data more on Endo site but have to transfer each file independently
  10. Hi, George, Takes a big man to admit. Was not there today as Last time I did it I entered the 70km event , but decided afterwards that the route was to technical for me, and also only did 45km after I rode up and down looking for route markers. A couple of us including mountainbikers decided that day that route to technically difficult for most to promote cycling. If I read previos posts , the same is said so not all can be down to Organising of the event. I think sometimes Organisers forget how easy it is to get lost if you do not know the route especially if you are tired and concentration not the best anymore. Good luck with your next event.
  11. I must say the piece is not that bad , have done the race four times and never had any issues. Have heard of guys with pices of stones getting stuck in their fork rubbing against tyre . But it is not that Bad. Taring this section will not cost more than 1.5 million to those saying why they do not just tar the road quickly.

Another thing not to forget is that you should be able to climb fairly well.Although not a lot of climbs if you loose the bunch , you loose a lot of time. Lost my bunch at Smitswinkel last year. The bunch finished in 2:53 and I did 3:02. Was easy to stay in the bunch up to that point so if I got over that hill I would have made it. So work on those hills. I train between between8-10 hours a week. But then again I fell short.
  13. I am in Middelberg from September 20-24 and was wondering if there is other cyclists (road) in this town. Looking for safe roads. See there was supposed to be race on 22nd but cancelled maybe we can do the route?
  14. Hi, I am in Midelburg on weekend of 22 September, see there was a race planned but now cancelled. Looking for good routes for roadbikes or perhaps a roadgroup to ride with.
  15. Nice race to do. Have not done last year but the wind normally blows. Just a bit far to only come and do this event al the way from Bloemfontein.
  16. Same in Cycling. I think it is one of those things everybody complain but nobody does anything. The rules they put in place also make hosting events more expensive. However if you do not have everything in place and get a death or bad accident it can ruin you.
  17. Hi Garfield, Short intense riding , a bit different than your normal style of long Triathlons. Ask Mongoose.
  18. ??????
  19. Hi, Did not do the race but know the races normally not timed there and no results afterwards. Had my only victory there, but no results anywhere to show off. They have quite a few races at the venue but was never timed in my time .
  20. Do not know who the roadies are but if relatively fit they should do it in around 3 Hours, it not really that hilly, so can not see the MTB's have a chance , but that depends on fitness levels of course.
  21. I agree , In same boat, told my son he must wait a bit longer till he can fir on 26". However visiting friends they already had 26" and he rode it without issue. He is 1.3 m so not tall for his age. Looking for XS 26" now. He actually wants a road bike which is harder to find for them. Cavendish is his hero so it took a lot of convincing that he must first get MTB.
  22. Hi , send you a pm. regarding spare bike.
  23. Hi My son in same boat, He rides his 20" bike up hills easily remember they weigh nothing themselves. I am now looking to get him a 26" bike as he will be able to go much faster and although it is made for 1.5 m he has ridden on a few without any issues at 1.3 m tall, just need to put sadlle all the way forward.
  24. A friend of Mine also had this problem. Was also advised to lower . It worked for him as well.I also had a bit of backpain but not that much and lowering also assisted me. They say it has to do with fact that you stretch out a bit more.
  25. Was thinking of doing my first Triathlon in 10 or so years but at that prize I will not . Do not know why it is so expensive, MTB nogal so no Traffic cops needed, I guess there is some costs to keep people save in water but I will stick to cycling then.
