  1. In 1998 also had a busted front derailier , did around 4 hours. Decided that I would get more serious. Got a coach - Fit Pro - at the time asked if they would get me to 3:15 for the next year. They said no problem started training with them and did 3:06 the next year from the H bunch. So if you train You should be capable of at least 3:30.
  2. Thanks for The Effort, I also a bit confused.I did 94.7, OFM , Argus ,& Jacaranda Classic in VB last year without having a licence. Anyway If you want to race VA make sure you are fit enough for the surges in speed and especially work on the hills as this is where the guys normall accelarate. Have seen cases in races wher we actually go faster on the hills than the flatter parts as the guys try to get rid of People and not riding for time. As this will be my first race will probably do open seeding and try to work on the front as much as possible to just get the legs stronger . Good Luck.
  3. Thanks a lot. Yes not to bad the OFM classic here in the Free State is around 750 m of climbing.
  4. I have always raced in VA & VB without full racing licence what has changed? Are you part of Organisers?
  5. Have this on the Radar as first event after moving to Gauteng. How is route? Flat as the Free State Will they allow me in to VB group with Membership only,(no racing license) . Will I be able to keep up as my legs quite rested after skipping the Argus.
  6. Acco I agree , But according to the above you do not need A racing licence for VA/VB etc.I have always raced in Vets but heard that this year they do not except you without full licence although CSA does not state that in licence rules. They only state that you need it for what is said above.
  7. moving to PTA soon and hope to find a group that can ride according to this. At least now I know why we have such a nice group . 80% of us in the 40+ group.
  8. First Real MTB event 15km in 1h02min.
  9. Any Races in PTA in April to June? MTB & Road.
  10. Yes this makes a difference, but for me I normally do worse speeds at Argus than other races. In Most races I sit in & work in the bunches, but seems like smitswinkel normally sheds me and then we are to far ahead and I do not really get picked up by other bunches. In other races normally stick with the bunch so my avg speed higher.
  11. Jip, Also got it, see where they before let the guys do it reluctantly they now allow you to do it at additional R360. As I sold my number I will definetely not take them up on the offer.
  12. Hi, Did you buy a personalised plan as normally the plan just upoads onto your userprofile on the site . No email needed. For MTB you will have to do more Endurance and strength training , there is not as many surges as you would have in a road race. He will need at least Heart rate monitor to be able to follow most training programs.
  13. Keen as well. Problem with some of previous ones that dissappeared that numbers low and the only the fastest rock up meaning a long Time trial for those not on same level. So next year they do not pitch. Therefore it must be marketed that the open seeded will be seperate to allow enough numbers. It is one of my objectives for next year or two an only tours is very far. Panorama and Clover.
  14. MTB for my son. 26" with lock out shocks disc brakes etc. He enjoys it every time going out. Never thought he would be able to ride the technical stuff so soon.
  15. Yes Agreed, Can also not see how Caja Rojal not made the grade.

    Time trials

Gauteng Time trial champs very soon.
  17. Had the same issue for the first time a tear or so ago and then again in the 94.7 last year. reading up a lot and of the things Seven explains the bike design very rarely still a problem unless a different bike. With me same as you once it happened to you, you are now scared of it happening again making you more tense and ensuring it actually happens more. I still need to test a bit more, but what I have found is that you need to pedal, the fact that you are tense make you to stop pedalling as you are afraid to loose control. Get more weight on the front wheel, this I did by adjusting my seat forward. It happened to me in the double century and a team mate fell back speaking to me telling me to pedal, which I did and we went down fast without the wobble occurring again. The wobble occurs at more or less the same frequency as the human shiver, so being do not be tense and grip the bar to hard, get to front of saddle. I will also report back on my next downhill her later this week.
  18. Hi, Also looking for Pretoria / Gauteng North Calender as I can not find anything on the Net. In PTA every now and then and looking for dates for Rooiwal and Vortex races for instance.
  19. The law states that you are not allowed with bicycle on Freeway/highway. If you come in and out of Bloemfontein have a lookout for the road signs indicating End of Highway as well as start of Highway. The fact that it is National road does not make it a Highway. As per normal people on the net easily show fingers. I used to live in Mpumulanga and stopped cycling as I could not find any safe routes anymore although none were Highways. Bloemfontein Roads much safer and the N1 is normally safe as well. Whould you rather cycle on a double lane road with yellow shoulder or a road with traffic in both directions with no shoulder. That is the choice of Roadies in Bloem if the want to cycle outside of the city itself.
  20. Was there today, Did the Oom Piet trial with my 9 year old son. Nice trials just the fence bridges a bit to technical for him. However marking was a bit difficult to follow at certain stages. Enjoyed the day though.
  21. Jip, Any training groups that will be riding 23-30 December? In PTA and do not know roads will take MTB .
  22. I bought a pair from them last year . It is not triathlon though. Comfort and fit excellent. Had a chance to fit them in store as I travelled for work. No complaints from my side but tricky to buy if you not sure about size, maybe check there policy for exchanges due to sizing.
  23. No, But also heard about it. Must say I train on N1 but will not go south of Bloemfontein where it is only one lane with no island between the South and North directions.
  24. Still remember years ago , Our club members were not allowed to race the club events. In those days most big clubs in Gautens organised an event in the Superseries. So on that day you were a marshall. Made you appreciate the marshalls in the other races.
  25. From The times I have done race with the road rangers it was absolute pleasuer because the give rolling road closure to the bunch at intersections etc. Felt very safe in those races.
