  1. I have the same rims, but I converted them using the RKL kit. The tyres seated easily, so I suspect that you probably need another layer of tape to fill up the rim a little more.
  2. I'm currently using the Ikon's tubeless.Awesome tyre, way better feeling than the UST CrossMarks I had before. Aired up easily on my Velocity Blunt SL rims, no pinholes.
  3. Was it a race? I would have drank faster if I had known.
  4. For what its worth, I run a 690mm flat bar on my HT 29er, inverted stem and could probably drop a little lower. My rigid SS 29er has a Ragley Carnegie riser bar, also inverted stem, effective width is also around 690mm even though the total bar width is about 720mm.The rise lifts my hands higher than I normally ride, but its seems fine on the SS. Something to do with the increased leverage, I suppose. I used to use a 600mm flat bar on my 26er dual suss until I'd been riding the other, wider bars. I've now changed to a 690mm flat bar with 10 degree backsweep and its changed the feel of the bike. Only problem is on moderate climbs, the front wheel lofts too easily, so I will probably invert the stem at some point. All three of the bikes have the same effective top tube length, so my saddle is in same position above the BB and I have the same stem length on all the bikes. Handlebars are all slightly lower than the saddle.
  5. How about a DeKerf?
  6. 580g for the 3C EXO version. I've only just fitted them, but I rode them on Friday and Saturday at SSWC and in the dry and moderately damp, they are streaks ahead of the Crossmarks I had before. I had a brief ride in the wet and slippery at Rietvlei a week before that and they are not bad, quite predictable, in fact.
  7. Have you thought about the Maxxis Ikon? Seems to be a great allround tyre. I've just gone from the Crossmark to the Ikon and the Ikon is definitely a grippier tyre.
  8. Also rolling on Thursday, hoping to get the show on the road by 13h30, latest. Not sure how feasible this will be with 3 riders and 7 hangers-on.
  9. Was a great ride, thanks to all.
  10. Could we maybe get a list going for who is joining this ride? Flippa the_nerd Stretched@Birth
  11. Have applied for my pink slip from the SO, so should be there barring any tears
  12. Schweet! I'll buy you a beer. Will bring my uni along.
  13. Awesome! Care to provide some impromptu lessons? I need some help riding my uni.
  14. I'm keen for a Midrand SS ride. How about the public holiday in September?
  15. Maybe for the next Souf ride?
  16. The problem with that route is that you go right past Thaba Trails.........and its practically a sin to drive past there without stopping for a ride.
  17. DIbs this idea for a costume for SSWC 2012!
  18. Imagine slipping and sliding your way along some singletrack until you come to a grinding halt because there is so much mud on your tyres your wheels no longer turn. That's the zigzags in the wet. They've been cut through an occasional vlei area, so its black clay that sticks like glue.
  19. Got an official media release from SAWS that reckons it will start warming up in Gauteng from tomorrow.
  20. Does anybody know where I can get gumboots with cleats? Although, if we stay out of the zigzags, we should be (reasonably) ok.
  21. Speak of the devil........................... and you get a poor imitation. You reconsidering riding the blue route in light of your mishaps last week?
  22. As per my previous post, I'll be there. Probably with the_nerd and Stretched@Birth in tow.
  23. You rang????? I'm keen for Rietvlei on Saturday. I'll be on the SS, to allow me to dab, walk and generally act like a wuss on the blue sections. Edited: found the time on the first page: 7h15.
  24. Ordered through Buycycle on 3 September. Got the email confirming order was processed. Then nothing. No email with tracking number, nothing. Got home today to find my items delivered. Not sure if their communication is up to par, but their delivery sure is.
