  1. The story above sounds all too familiar If riding a Ghost, that was me My cramping started as we hit the Breedts road, long haul home but happy to have finished. That was a proper MTB race, non of the Mickey Mouse stuff others consider MTBing, this from a Roadie Dissappointed tho that when you finished, there wasn't actual post ride drinks, nothing like an ice cold coke to welcome you home. I'll be back, once my brain has cleared from all the dust
  2. Over Christmas, i think 2 guys were taken out in the Cradle by cars. We've discussed this, i see the logic but don't think i'd subscribe to it. Quite often there's black commuters riding on the wrong side of the road, think they also getting smarter to seeing the taxi's as opposed to being suprised by them. I was hit from behind round 11 years ago, took a while but i don't freak out anymore. I also see how some people ride and it's just messy, people almost need to adopt a defensive cycling practice.
  3. Regardless of a bad day or not really getting the picture of what a customer is looking for, doesn't give you the right to call anybody an "asshole" in my books, even if you lost a loved 1 or are pissed off with your dog for eating your lunch, doesn't give you the right to abuse a customer, let alone a fellow human being. Been there, wasn't really impressed with what they stock or pricing so doubt i'll ever use them for much. Crazy that you wouldn't sell your spares? Isn't the idea behind business to move stock and make money?
  4. Thanks D & L for entertaining us hooligans at your pozzzzie! Think i might have taken half your lawn with me when leaving tho....sowwie The lil Mrs is happy she got to do a chill ride - in the East Rand nogal. I loved the technical sections Crazy, got to meet Mike who i know from wakeboarding friends, small world! DD, no worries, why we ride, so we can eat things caked in syrup Have a good safe Christmas all!
  5. I gather you're still in the FZ then
  6. There's MTBing in the East Rand....who would've known, considering i stay in that area Will speak to the Racing Snail, see what she says. Eldron you check theHub Sat?
  7. It's all new technology, wireless i tell you Nicely done! Looks great
  8. Did you sell the 'Dale or shy to admit you ride carbon?
  9. I'm still in 2 minds about the whole 29r thing. Test rode a Spez Camber 29r this weekend at Groenkloof, it's great that they offer this facility. With the bike being heavier (yes i'm already spoilt) and me sitting very upright due to short stem & wider bars, it's difficult to compare to my properly setup 26r which is light and nimble. I did take the Epic S-Works 29r for a spin (in the car park - gf rode it in GK) as well which was lighter and nippy in general, rolling carbon wheels with XTR kit, it's hard to fault that bike for not being as nippy as a 26r considering that's what i'd be looking at but to look at a R70+k bike, that's a hard pill to swollow. Who knows, maybe Santa Karma brings me 2 For me to bite the bullet a
  10. +1 +1 They are definitely not a C@!ees store. I've been using Solomon's for a couple years now cos they close to work. Started off with a couple headset bearings when everybody else wanted to rip me a new O ring and i've grown a relationship with Aghtar and the staff now. I've ordered non stock items from them as well and they've sourced and supplied timeously. Even certain deals they've carried for me til they had stock. So yes, i do recommend them. Building a relationship with any LBS takes time and Solomon's is 1 i'd recommend. Never used them to build or service my bikes, i do that myself so can't comment on that side.
  11. I'm sure i was close, really.....promise
  12. Last year i had a blast, rode in a COW suit and just went to have fun, you can't race a "duathlon" with 5000 people is my attitude to 94.7 MTB? What a cock up of a race this year! 1stly, it's a mass event for the JHB public, couple serious MTBers going out there to race, the rest are out there doing their thing which is who i believe they are catering for? So why have a cut-off time or make it reasonable at least? I paid my bucks, why shouldn't i be allowed to do 55km in 5 hours? Or has 94.7 just tried to maximise how much cash they can make with the Kiddies Race (this was just as big a nightmare), 40km, MTB & Road? I started in A8 with my GF, the last group of SLOW riders since she's not seeded. Let's get this straight, we were going to have FUN and i was pissed off when all of a sudden we end up on a 32km finish distance, i'm seasoned enough to notice sign boards, we never took any short-cuts cos that's not how i roll, both in COW suits. With the cutoff set at 10:30 and us starting at 08:10, we avg'd 17kph when we only had to avg 14 to make cut-off. I think they lifted the 55km boards early? Just so p'd off with this event! Barring the timing issue of who did the full course, who did the short course, knowingly, unknowingly cos they had been "cut", knowingly or unknowingly, they need to up their act! I personally think they lifted the boards early so all the A8's ended up on the 30km unknowingly. From the info i read, the cut-off was 10:30?? Did you see the section they wouldn't allow you to do? They should have all the plans in place to manage the event & timing in my opinion? +1 I was seeded to start A1 but started A8, it's possible i could've ridden a proper time, now i'll get DQ'd cos my start time was from A8 & they have 0 way of telling if i did the proper 55 or 30? You also think they lifted the boards early? Yes Last year there was a special table hidden even before you got to registration where you could get your Yellow and Green colours on your number. You have to do it after you have your number. Kinda backwards and i think few know/knew about it. Never known about a medal tho? I believe if you have cut short knowingly, be honest and tell the organisers/don't cross. Most the people i saw at the finish were confused as to where they'd gone wrong. Few actually knew they'd been so called "cut" so they crossed the mats and wondered where they'd gone wrong. I believe it to be an organisational issue. Hahahaha.....innocent weekend warriors with 0 clue of how their gears even work, let alone where they went wrong on a MTB course get punished? I blame the organisers for this screw up! You also gonna be fair & fight for me to keep my 2:10 when i'm seeded A1 but started A8?
  13. I know the guys from Edenglen leave like at 4:45, sometimes even earlier, i'm just too lazy to get up Maybe look them up on FB and they also have a webpage. Else forming your own thing is also good, sometimes fewer people means a smoother ride.
  14. I bought for a Scott Spark (80), Ghost Lector (120) & for my road bike Specialized (~170). I asked Cajees where i bought the bike from for a Scott RD and they wanted R300 for it, i went past Morningside and picked it up for R80. Guess it's about shopping?
  15. Where does 1 get silicone spray? Or you just look for a silicone based lube/spray at the hardware store? Any recommended places to purchase? Cos it's suppose to be used on zips, them laces for the BOA system so i'd be interested in trying some, been doing the WD40 trick & it seems to work.
  16. I looked up all the Spez dealers in JHB and called, some shops were cheaper than others (by almost R500) so even consider shipping them if CT costs more. Just fit them so you know what size to order
  17. WoW, that's suprising that a DOA unit will not be covered under warranty. If it's visibly damaged through the packaging when you receive it (courier), don't open the unit but in-store checking the unit. What would a store owner do if 25% of the stock supplied to him ends up DOA and gets told, sorry bud, it's your problem, that problem isn't covered by warranty? I'm guessing there'd be fewer stores that would stock that product? 1x Brand would sink very quickly.
  18. Nope, was Day3, up the climb in the shade where i was taking pics of the awesome view, same place i got the pic of you. Weapon of choice noted and i expect to see this fulfilled, or maybe ride in a COW suit, that'll warm things up a bit
  19. I need to upload em still, i got a kewl pic of you, Mr ST i got Video of, that might not be uploaded.
  20. So i expect to see you upping your game then next year
  21. Team Name: Gadingy (& my better half is just awesome, she insisted on not being assisted, wanted the right to say she did it herself, her 1st 3T, my 2nd) - 2012 Time 14:03:42 My 2011 time - 15:56:13 (is it crazy that i chopped nearly 2 hours?), admittedly i was more shattered last year and rode day 2 with another guy who was taking strain so that was a long day.
  22. I'm there riding with my better looking half Why so many doing the Challenge? We'll be doing the Race, can't wait for the Bush Tunnels I'm easy to find, more than likely the only
  23. Last year it rained the night of day 2, day 3's riding was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! Dust had settled, not many muddy sections as well. I'm hoping for a little rain ahead of time so the track is less dusty. Either way, in for a great ride
  24. I have mine too GF's gonna be a happy camper this w/end
  25. Forget BB Clearance, i'm more worried about B-Bag damage! Bouncing down a road with straps round your crotch, AIBO!
