  1. Even if you're an amateur, you can do serious damage to your body if you push it when you have injury. It took me almost a year to recover properly from a back injury cause I took a cortisone injection in my back and felt "good enough to do a race" the next week. Where as if I just waited another few weeks I would've been right as rain! IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!
  2. I honestly would check with your doctor. I know it's not recommended to use ibuprofen type pills in conjunction with running, which is probably where you would be using it.
  3. Proper training and nutrition would be far better than any painkillers on race day.
  4. This guy didn't check the headline... Near miss is a lot more fatal than a near hit! http://www.news24.co...r-miss-20110927
  5. The trend the last couple of months has been that the rand is ridiculously week in the middle of the month, but the first week of the new month it somehow miraculously drops. But yeah, when I saw the exchange rate this morning it was ZAR8.25/$ It had better get it's act together soon, I need to send money over again!

Mr Legs, It's the Cape Town Challenge. Ironman distance, but I think there's an olympic distance the day before... http://www.challengecapetown.com/
  9. Entries are closing today! So who is doing it? I'm still game for doing a team
  10. Where's Sonstraal?
  11. Hi All, I would like to organize a masters / adult swim group at one of the schools in the Durbanville area. Essentially the idea is to have a set time a few times per week where people with varying abilities get together to do lap swimming. Preferrably under some guidance (coach) or general training plan. The reasons being, I would rather swim in a team environment than have someone jumping in to the lane with me who is there just to play around. And I find I'm a little more competitive when swimming with others. So my questions are as follows: 1. Does anyone have any affiliation with one of the local school, so that I can contact said school? 2. Who would be interested? Obviously there would have to be some kind of monetary contribution to use the facilities.
  12. Yesterday was the Ironman Wisconsin, and I knew 15 people that took part in it. Ages ranging from 32 to 56, veteran triathletes as well as beginners. All but 1 finished and that was due to technical issues on the bike. Times ranged from 10:06:59 to 15:03:03 One of the athletes made his goal in qualifying for Kona, another athlete decided to attempt her first IM at age 55, and another having essentially coming off the couch a little more than a year ago to try his hand at an IM. And these are just a few of them. Each person had his/her own goal, and by training smart their goals came to fruition. I just find it awesome that all these different people were able to do what they set out to do. And to see the old adage “you can do anything you want to do” in action, is truly inspiring. So good luck with everyone’s training for IMSA 2012! This thread is a great place for some support from fellow athletes!
  13. Just to help represent! This is what the hub is all about:
  14. I have the file for a computrainer, may be possible to change the file type?
  15. I usually take 2 puffs before I exercise, this helps with not having to take any hits during exercise. And when I'm pushing hard, I try to control my breathing which is hard at times! I've noticed though that the fitter I've become, the less frequently I need to use my inhaler. Although I do have daily meds that I take to control it.
  16. Hahaha, sorry... masters swimming is group swimming for people no longer in school. So essentially adult swim with a coach. Abilities range from beginner to experienced, and depending on that, you get grouped together in a lane. Here's an example: Masters_Swim_Club_oct.17_(3).doc
  17. What kind of training does she do? I.e. does she coach master's swimming at all?
  18. CURTAINS!!!! Don't pick on my cause I speak Americanese
  19. Not sure if it's just the lighting in the picture, but your seat is color coded with the drapes
  20. I've been using the new strap since the beginning of the year and I really like it. No problems at all, and it picks up my heart rate almost right away, I don't have to wait a bit like I need to for the polar strap. And it's really comfortable!
  21. Yeah, I've only heard good things about their club. I want to join too, but may only do it next season cause I have a knee injury that's limiting me to swimming and easy biking only.
  22. How is the pool at Cape Gate? Durbanville's is 20m I think and Tygervalley's markings at the bottom of the pool are not in the correct position - which resulted in me swimming in to the wall a few times. And sharing a lane isn't a big deal, as long as everyone know's where they're supposed to swim and don't just jump in the lane without you knowing (I've also swam in to someone that way and they were the worse for wear )
  23. Just confirm with ATC that you can swim there whenever you'd like. I think it's only available for certain times and then you have to have a specific swim cap otherwise the guards along there will make you get out.
  24. You can always try riding like this, may be a bit obvious though!
  25. Why don't you incorporate a speed session once a week in your swim, you'll be surprised how effective it is. And it doesn't have to be anything too crazy, just 4x50's with about 20sec recovery between each one.
