  1. an overweight Dogma? why the sky graphics?? will it top the Dogma pricetag?
  2. I went from 170 to 175mm... couldn't notice the difference
  3. why doesn't somebody organise long distance kermesses in Hypermarket parking lots. 4hours + 1 lap. no costs for road closure... and fans can watch them. Preferably in Capetown for the wind
  4. Will have exactly the same effect as a straight crank excepting a little less stiff and heavier due to the stupid shape. Anyway - good luck to the inventors of this.
  5. ja true... but if you're racing' date=' you can go faster up the hill if you only have a 21. a 27 just makes you lazy [/quote'] I did Hekpoort with a 23, no problem... but it comes up 15kms into the race. If it was near the end I think I would have been walking .
  6. how much did it cost to rent the chip?
  7. Some of the stats seem a little strange: If he is cycling 8 to 10 hours a week his body fat should have dropped a lot more ( I would think)?? and 6:30 to run 1km is excrutiatingly slow, unless he is pulling a tyre behind him. I would think 8 to 10 hours of cycling a week for an average (or below average) 28year old male will easily be enough to achieve a 3:45 argus. Agree with you that core strength is important though.
  8. Does R70k sound expensive for a Prince with super record, bora ultras etc? If not go and have a look at Westdene cycles!
  9. The biggest problem with buying 2nd hand is you have very little chance of finding the brand/type/colour/size of bike that you want in a condition and at a price that you are happy with - unless you wait around for ages ...... so second hand buyers are either looking for bargains (in which case they might change their dream 'spec') or they scour the classifieds without really needing or wanting a particular item, just 'browsing'... again this is for a bargain! I wouldn't pay more than 50% second hand.
  10. With Polar it doesn't matter as it is measuring how hard you are working and nothing else - so it will work on the road, MTB, running, climbing or sitting at your desk!
  11. Garmin isn't very accurate, as it discounts factors like wind, roadsurface and only takes speed and climbing into account (as far as I know)
  12. I'm sure drugs are also easily available in southern and south america, asia and the rest of africa. The main reason that atheletes train here are: Southern hemisphere summer, temperate climate, first world facilities, english speaking, same time zone as europe, etc etc..
  13. I think I'm talking about potential energy , ie at the top of the hill with the same aero influences heavier bike goes very slightly faster/further, or after the big accelleration on the flat the rider will have to work less (very slightly) hard when he is decelerating* which will save the energy that was put into the system in the first place. * = I'm assuming the real world where there is wind resistance, so rider is still work even when gently decelerating. all the examples that you mention (braking, rolling resistance, wind) would effect the lighter wheeled bike too.
  14. surely the (incredibly small) extra energy used with heavier wheels when accellerating will be dissipated at a later stage, so no extra energy is used over the race as a whole... excepting I guess for the final dash for the finish line, after which the race is over!
  15. this is all completely pointless.... the extra KE in the wheel/bike/system comes from extra energy put in by the rider!! this would only help you if the TT consisted in a race to see how far you could freewheel for after getting up to a maximum speed.
  16. dont know anything about the tyres you mentioned, but the higher 'TPI' means slightly less rolling resistance (friction). There will be no sidewall movement unstability - this is not an issue. Of the gatorskin vs gp4000: the gatorskins are tougher, better puncture resistant, heavier and better suited to training, gp4000 better for racing.
  17. on his (her?) own the heavier rider will go faster, but dont worry.. little people can just sit in their slipstream on the waydown. Ditto for tandems
  18. Probably because they are the largest clubs by membership and have the most memebrs on the road! other big 'clubs' that you will spot misbehaving are Team Barloworld and Discovery.
