  1. Ok so you only wasted 7k, The 1000g doesn't include the fork, else it is the lightest frame in the world. (seriously, I think it is a nice frame though) the other BIGGER cycling weight myth is that losing body weight is good for performance!! ie, Big Joe weighed 85kg, did a 4 hour argus, trained for a year, now weighs 80kg, did a 3 hr argus... so 5kg drop in weight saved him an hour - haha
  2. another alternative (a lot cheaper) is just replace the rear cassette with a 12-25!, (39-25 = same ratio almost as 36-23)
  3. lack of new riders coming into road cycling, or rather in the last decade there was a huge growth of newbies due to the LA factor, now with a bunch of cheating euro pros, nobody cares much... so race numbers have declined to a 'realistic' level and will maybe drop slightly more and then lebvel off. also the migration to MTBing.
  4. SS - super stiff, will never ever see: SC - super comfortable SP - super practical SV - super value
  5. the main reason I think why Astana was excluded (over and above other teams who aren't that clean and are in the race) is that they are almost certain of winning the race! (young reigning champ who is one year older wiser and faster, big budget, johan bruyneel, great team of riders.. who else could touch them??).
  6. Nothing wrong with a triple* it just doesn't belong on a high-end road bike like these two. * gear changes also aren't as good with a triple. If, like me, you are old/weak/overweight etc then get a compact - similar effect, lighter, gear changes are better and wont stand out on a cervelo!
  7. Soloist. Either model the triple is a no-no
  8. Whats with Jason's cannondale? Did he break the cervelo in half on saturday??
  9. Who?s In: First, the good news. Giro director Angelo Zomegnan announced that 21 teams of nine riders would contest the opening Grand Tour of the year. The selection has been based upon ethics, the quality of the teams, internationalism and also the long-term relationships with RCS. AG2R-La Mondiale (FRA), Barloworld (GBR), Caisse D?Epargne (SPA), Cofidis (FRA), CSF Group-Navigare (IRL), Diquigiovanni-Androni (VEN), Euskaltel Euskadi (SPA), Francaise Des Jeux (FRA), Gerolsteiner (GER), Lampre (ITA), Liquigas (ITA), LPR Brakes (IRL), NGC Medical-OTC (SVI), Quick Step (BEL), Rabobank (NED), Saunier Duval-Scott (SPA), Silence-Lotto (BEL), Slipstream (USA), Team CSC (DEN), Team Milram, Tinkoff Credit System (ITA). The mix is a fairly typical National Tour blend of international squads and smaller home grown teams, including LPR, which is the new home of 2007 Giro winner Danilo Di Luca, and Gilberto Simoni?s Diquigiovanni-Androni outfit. Both riders left ProTour teams at the end of 2007, and have been the catalyst for their current teams invite to the 2008 race. Astana Not!!
  10. I reckon the felt give better value than scott.. also looking for a new bike at the moment and giant tcr /scott cr1/ merida scultura/ felt or fuji are on my shopping list
  11. personally I think that the CR1 is a fairly good value carbon frame, whereas the speedsters are overpriced compared to similar alu. frames. If I had the money i would go for the CR1.. also if you carefully check the price differences between the differently specced items you will see where some of the R6k is going (especially bottom of the range shimano wheels on the speedster). if you dont have the money (or better things to spend the difference on) then the speedster is a good bike anyway - I have an old alu. Scott myself . I wouldn't let the weight considerations enter your decision - both bikes are not the lightest for the price.
  12. is the only difference in the bikes the groupset??
  13. YOU STORE THEM IN A SAFE??
  14. .... and a Union...
  15. I think 94,7 and argus used to publish statistics of stuff about their races (litres of coke consumed, meters of tape used, number of marshalls, etc etc) that included value of bikes, try getting hold of 94,7 office or Tanya Harding.
  16. so thats why they are going so fast up a steep hill
  17. 1. finishing a saturday club ride with the A group 2. Berg-en-dale race 3. my best 94,7 time 4. no crashes!!!!! lowlights, 1. losing F group on the 94,7 2. no winter races (jock, kremetert didn't happen for me)
  18. I'm not even going to start on French Cars!!! (trade it in, get a toyota) jaa, ok, i know that helps nothing
  19. Ditto about the best bike, although there is also a giant and scott collecting spiderwebs, somewhere in my garage
  20. out of interest, is carbon made from raw oil somehow (I really dont know!)??? surely muscle absorbs vibration pretty well as fat, they are both relatively 'soft' compared to carbon/ steel??
