  1. Nope!! Anyone could license as a vet and when racing in the bigger races, regardless of your ability you were seeded in the vets cat. The only time that has not happened is in the Argus and 94.7 where they have minimum seeding requirement of 9 or 10 (i think?) The way i understand it from what i have read on the hub is that Andrew McLean will now be racing against Jaco Feirera, am i correct? So then the problem isn't with the seeding vs ranking - its organisers letting any body (with a license) into racing categories. why dont they just keep a limit like max. 7% seeding to enter certain categories, all done by computer, by cyclelab... just like they neatly organise the masses into AL, BL, CL etc.
  2. How will it work... for example placing 20th in the Argus is very different to placing 20th in some minor race (less quality riders)?
  3. I would recommend that you increase your sat rides distance as you get fitter to closer to race distance (assume that you dont ride sun), doing 1 to 2 hour rides will get you fit but you will struggle in the last hour of a 100k race because your body is not used to the distance/ time.
  4. < ="-" ="text/; =utf-8">< name="ProgId" ="Word.">< name="Generator" ="Microsoft Word 12">< name="Originator" ="Microsoft Word 12"><> The OUTsurance Tshwane Mayoral that was scheduled to take place at the Union Building in PTA on Sunday 20 September has been CANCELLED. An sms has been sent out to all entrants. Due to unforseen circumstances, the TMPD advised that they were unable to support this event. The organisers were only advised of the fact this morning and apologise for the late notification. They felt that the safety of the riders would be at risk and a decision was therefore made to cancel the race. All on-line entries will automaticall be refunded. Refunds for manual entries are being done.
  5. Will leave my roadbike in the 53-11, that should also do the trick.
  6. I would spend more time on a bike and reduce the spinning and jogging, depending on family/ social commitments ride twice on the weekend and rest one day during the week... my 2c
  7. There is only 1 seeding race left - Dome 2 Dome in Gauteng
  8. lance. Endorsement/ politically - yup.. cycling - no I would vote Cancellara.. maybe I need to read the article
  9. Aren't they the monocoque Tri/TT bikes.. I would imagine they weigh a lot more than 'superlight' - I've never seen one in real life though
  10. i think the argument that somebody wont dope becasue they know they will be tested (eg Astana) has been disproven over and over again... look at "the killer" What you can say is that when the best riders dope, they expect to be tested and pass due to advanced doping techniques, sometimes they get it wrong (riders + doctors, not the testers) and there are positives.
  11. Am I misreading this table??? the worst untrained rider is 5.81 for 5 minutes, the best elite is double that, so if the untrained unfit slob weighs 120kg and the elite guy weighs 60kg, then they both have the SAME power for 60 seconds.... or does this table exclude body fat from riders weight???
  12. The 'purchase price' is not a legal and binding contract (contract with who?), it is merely an offer to sell. The seller can increase it, decrease it or remove the item for sale as he sees fit. Only once somebody has offered him a sum to buy it AND this has been accepted is it binding. agreed it is pathetic for the guys doing this - maybe the recession has bitten?
  13. get the 'best' length for your leg length/ riding style.... then get the right gearing combinations for your riding style/ race conditions. BUT this will not increase your power which is physically impossible!!! ... therefore neither your speed, the merry go round had very little resistance - that is why you could push it faster!

  15. cant speak in Afrikaans, I'm afraid... but it is physically impossible to increase power without increasing energy expenditure. 1. get a cranklength that suits your length/ leg length/ 2. ride at a cadence that suits you
  16. can you imagine the bitching and moaning when race fees become even more ridiculous to cover insurance premiums of 'lost' bicycles!
  17. Dianne, wont your insurance cover the bicycle? Hopefully if it was valuable your husband would have had the sense to insure it. Why not post pictures/ or a detailed spec. of the bike on this site? the bike might have been offered to a Hubber in a sale or spotted on the road.
  18. Gear + Cadence will give you speed - all you need is a speedometer , impossible to work out power without a powermeter - due to different road surfaces, wind, gradient etc etc
