  1. This is an interesting topic, I have been thinking much the same as Airbender. When I trained for the GR300 wich was a 3day race, I trained wednesdays through sundays. Monday and tuesday was either off or recovery on TDT and or run. As you gents know, The first "fresh" day of the training week one easily reaches the 95% marks during intervalls or hills but as my week progresses what would be 95% on fresh legs becomes 90% and a desent cruise speed whould normally be highish in the 80s but late in the training week Its low 80"s So I to have started judging myself by exertion, I found at day 2 of this race me and my partner were both comparing Heartrates (our Max is within 184 and 185 respectively) we were very evenly matched for the race but had very different puls's. You may say sure so youre different people, I say obviously, but we train the same way and with the same "zones"... I could guage myself well by exertion and I found that as soon as I went above 8/10 I started to get tired quickly so the secret was to just never let the foot of and keep it at exactly 8 or just below.
  2. Jeesh THis tread is moving, I didnt see CWC's post, Nice-one Chris senior. Also noted of course that the CWC on the hub is not ran by the same people as CWC - online..
  3. I know Hubbers love CWC, Its easy to like them, I do, and will but from them again, they go the extra mile and they listen to what we have to say and make an effort to meet our needs. I agree with you all, Nox was perhaps treading on holy ground starting a topic "CWC+ Negative experiance... Maybe could have stated "Major LBS Stuffs up"?? I dont know..POINT TAKEN NOX111 ?? But. To me the real point is... As someone stated above, they are not above critisism, wat they did or lacked doing was serious.. Cycling is a dangerous sport and when one gets someone you care for into this sport it becomes more real to us. Somehow when I plow into loose rutted corners at 40-50km/hr or ride down Kloofnek on my way home after a ride I dont think about the dangers anymore. We get numb to the dangers. Many of you have introduced a wife, girlfriend or even just a friend to cycling...Let me paint a picture: Imagine how Pissed you'd be if you found out she rode a brand new bike, (for some reason you couldnt check it for her) and the bikeshop didnt check the front QR before loading it onto her bikerack, she took it off and went on to go ride some dirtroads by herself... Sure, thare are disclaimers everywhere but ignorance is bliss and she would not have been aware what the rattle from the front wheel would have been, thinking, "surely theres nothing wrong" the bike is new, the LBS know best, I'll trust them. This is unfortunately how someone would think, agreed ?? Im glad It didnt end up in tears Nox111. I can give you some contacts for her to go have the bike checked at in PE. Unless CWC is willing to pay for the bike to get shipped back to them to have "checked". The tallest tree catches the most wind. ??
  4. So day one of GR300 done and dusted 5 :36 and 95km of the best riding ive ever done. THAT was KNYSNA at its best..every awesome section I know was in there.. strung together in a bloody tough and technical ride but oh so awesome.. we rode to the red route through the forrest, then did the redroute, as part of the race then rode to the best parts of petrus se brand, then some awesome section of about 10km deep in the bush before more singletrack and even the last 3-5km was climbing up steep stuff with singletracks so steep and fun that reminded me what I loved about MTB all along, sttuff I wouldnt see In cape town, because they domb the trails down so much because the "fat guy at the back" might fall on his face and moan or get pissed. This was serious stuff, flat out singletrack bombing, up motherless steep sections and tough?? hell yea. How can they possibly better this tomorrow? Oh and I was going to say.. I saw a guys Topeak holders like mine break today. the spez ones looks much better : ) but mine lasted the day.
  5. You should try, theres a notable difference, feels so light, especially long ries and climbing out the saddle.
  6. Trust me at 4-5 hours in the saddle you dont care about cool no more and neither do the other guys when you overtake them.
  7. Thanks Swissfan. 1) the barends are on a Cobalt xc3 Bar which has zero rize but It looks like a rizer bar, so It fealt like cheating on my GF! I have a wrist Injury and The barends are really only for as long as the wrist hurts, which it does at the moment. The bottle mount is the "topeak" someone mentioned on the previous page, I bloody hope it doesnt break off. I'd say maybe get the one like on the spez bike on previous page aswell, looks stronger and its not so far offset. Dont know what tipe it is though?? as far as comfort, I didnt notice it at all, makes the bike heavy but oh well, not as bad as strapping 3kg's to your shoulders. 2) = can of worms and okes will tune you to do a search Its a fast track 2bliss rear and a Shauserwind 2bliss on front. Ive never tried spez tires so finally after 18 months on Monorail front and Raceking at the back (which are slightly faster especially up front) I thought I'd try something else. after one 3 hour ride I'd say the fastrack might not grip quite as well as the raceking, but its lighter and has more volume, definately a plusher ride. The shouserwind, is like a xc version of a high roller, quite lekker actually, cant say I feel its slower but It sure grips like hell, lekker for some more agressive trails and knysna which might be wet this weekend. I know there are faster front tires, but agg, lifes so one dimentional If you stick to one brand.
  8. Mamparra, you'll cry when you see what I did to my zula for this race ok let me find a pic... I'll take it off afterwards I promise, But camelbacks make you tired, its loong days in the saddle, not 3-4 hours..
  9. youre shitting me? I just got one and Rode with it once before the GR300 3day race this weekend...?? Where did it break? Im going to have to take a chance..
  10. How do polars measure distance? are they all foot pod/ sensor tipe/ or do they also make a gps based one?
  11. I go for tried and tested combo's Ive tried the maxxis combo, currently ride Raceking at the back and Monorail in front. I would be riding a Shauserwind (spez) or a advantage or another race king in front had I not lived in the cape where grip is aplenty. Rubber queen, its a freeride tire, big thing, not for you unless youre into gravety. there are lots of choices, but dont go to far from what the guys are recomending, like the panaracer rampage, google" Redbull rampage" then you see what that tire is made for. So take the advice..
  12. I would also dig to see him in the TDF. Ive backed him the last 3 years and while he was riding a lot more agressive a few years ago, Its beyond me to think that he would have doped knowing they will test much more thorrough as the topic was blown huge just before the tour with the whole Lance story. But then thats what everyone does... Idiots. I I would love to beleve - " that his positive test was due to factors beyond his control" but he is not just a normal kid on the block, he is the hero in a the sport where doping is rife.. and for one I have no doubt he wouldnt have the natural talent to get up there without doping. Anyway, lets hope it gets withdrawn, Even if it just mixes things up a bit.
  13. haha, still not sure she got it....
  14. but Youre the T-girl..? what do you want to know missus?
  15. Oh goodness, Its folks for strokes, but I ride back Ust, Front normal, In my opinion I dont want to take chances.. But then again its a opinion, so is everyone's..oh hell and here we go.. Thats the problem with Threads, on fofums, Its just opinions, not so much facts. In not saying It wont work, But I have had sidewall cuts on the rear because the rear wheel takes more punishment (unless you cant lift the front ) Its up to you T- girl.. Oh, And can I have some coffe now?
  16. correct. sheesh this is harder to get right than I thought
  17. Kiff thread... I'll go scratch for mine... I can only find my very first, Ive got phisical photos of my first bikes but those are not scanned yet..Another day. Im the kid on the right, with the **** all over his backside, It could be mud but I wont put money on it.
  18. Cool bro, no stress. Shame I was only trying to make it more simple for her. Ive got lots of friends (girls and mates) who start riding and they dont want all the tech talk, just, "what must I ask the guy at the shop" ? As for the none UST in front, Its up to her, but really not a nessity. The only time the UST will help you get less punctures are the sidewalls, and If youre not going to be bombing through headsize limestone rocks, I recon youre safe. In face I do and Ive probably not had 2 punctuers the last 2 years . The monorail and Crossmark work fine down here in the cape. they dont grip that well in lose stuff, but not that bad. The gravel is "gritty" and course down here, so even in the winter it doenst get to slick, only the roots do, but you cant do much about them. As for cornering grip, I'll take a easy rolling tire which might save me 20 minutes over 100km rather than a grippy tire that will save me a total of 30 seconds through the 20 lose corners one might find along the way. Buy Yes, This counts down here in the cape mainly.
  19. Guys Be nice. Use a Ust tire on the back, the rear tire takes a lot more impact. a Race king, its a nice light UST tire and rolls fast the front get a non Ust. Its more than safe, trust me, just tell the bikeshop I said so, haha. If youve never had a puncture Its quite obvious you dont abuse tires. get the Mountain king 2.2 in front, more traction. Ive been riding non UST in front for 3 years, no problems. It'll be fine for you, just keep the pressure above 2 bar.
  20. Shew.. this is confusing.. you.. OK, For once I'd say , these are facts. just do it Ive been doing this for 10 years and have read a hundred of these threads. Your wheels/rims are fine, dont bother getting new ones. those tireliners you are running at the moment weigh a tonne so dont bother you wont go heavier. Get a Continental Raceking 2.2 UST for the rear and a Non UST "foldable" Continental Mountainking 2.2' on the front Gathering from your Photo you dont weigh enough to justify having to get a "tubeless" in front and rear, It saves bucks and is lighter. These tires will definately work in your area they are tried and tested. Go to your Local Bike Shop, ask them for those tires and to use conversion strips, doesnt matter what kind, If they do the "ghetto tubeless" Martin is talking about then get it, its cheaper but they will probably not. Doing it yourself is a bit of a mission if youre not technically minded. It is a little bit of an expense initially but you keep these "strips" for long and the tires will last you 18 months easy
  21. hahaha Thats awesome...Im going to use this.
  22. Splat lets cause some Sh*t In C bro. Im thinking sit in front and go for broke on every climb, go with every break and never ease up. Thats about what I did last year. I ended up being so stuffed that Suikerbossie was actually hard for once. Man I still want that sub 3.. this is the year.. I heard the Wind isnt going to blow this year....
  23. Ya I did done back to back 3 hr plus rides this passed weekend and I for the first time in 5 years thought of them... But I think thats cause my right wrist is buggered cause I made my own "fix" when I broke it in my 2nd year Lekker doff, But the thought of doc and a scalple blade made me faint so ya. I fixed it myself and wrote with my left hand for 3 months..Wrist was never the same Back to barends.. Are they UUUgly? yes, Will I get them? No Toughen up.
  24. If He started In G and caught up with A and finished in the bunch with them, He would theoreticaly be way ahead because they started 20 minutes before him. Theres anothe thread about the rollercoaster, I think the guys said its legit.
  25. C again, should have done some seeding races Lets see if I can wake up this time...last year overslept, started from K, hardest Ive ridden in my life
