    Airtime Photos

Heres my little whip at oakvally this weekend, it was taken a bit early before I got a ft of air, but it was more of a pre jump than anything, doing a good 50km/h
  2. Table Mountain Watch: TM a complete “No Go” area ?? 2 Feb 2011 | Source: Table Mountain Watch Another series of attacks on the mountain!! In the last two weeks we have seen attacks in the Karbonkelberg (attempted rape), Platteklip and Blockhouse areas. The nature of these attacks has escalated somewhat and people are now being injured in the process. The Karbonkelberg incident, for example has prompted the Hout Bay Community Police Forum (CPF) to declare it a complete no-go area, warning all Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch members to stay away. Sandy Bay falls into the same category. Do we now add Rhodes Mem / Blockhouse to the list? Do we start to see parts of the mountain in the same way we see the Cape Town Station Deck – which JP Smith loves to use as an example of a much higher priority area for Metro and SAPF resources? When do we shut down the mountain completely?? I’m not sure this is such an extreme concept anymore. I have to think very carefully about where I want to take my family for walks these days. What about you? Press comments by various members of Table Mountain National Park beg further comment. While we believe these people to be hard working and diligent, they are short staffed and lacking in the fundamental skills of policing and apprehending criminals of this type on this terrain. SECURITY ON THE MOUNTAIN IS NOT “ADEQUATE”. This is the usual RSA “What crisis?” response, trotted out by those we have appointed to do the job. Security should not be “adequate” at this time. It should be much, much more than just “adequate”. SANParks itself is hugely quiet on the matter, preferring to leave all communication, strategy and action to TMNP. Or not? We can only speculate in the communication vacuum they love to maintain. In the Kruger Park (extraordinary) forces have been brought to bear to deal with Rhino poachers. What’s the difference here? We have access to statistics (diligently collated by a friend of the action group over the years) that go way back to the year 2000. From these one can determine that had TMNP (and SAPF) focused on 4 areas – primarily – up to 75% (!!) of all attacks could have been prevented. Simple analysis of the data on an ongoing basis would have revealed this much earlier. Why then the ongoing reference to “it’s a vast area” ?? A concerted focus – that is visible policing as well as covert observation posts – in these areas will rid us of most of the problems. Which areas are these: Sandy Bay, Lions Head, Blockhouse, Skeleton. Of these, in more recent times (2010), Sandy Bay and Blockhouse have recorded more incidents than Skeleton and Lions Head. Newlands Forest and Celia Forest are also areas to be very careful in. Soon we should declare the stretch from Skeleton to Blockhouse a no go area. Add Sandy Bay and the Karbonkelberg. Still a “vast” area left I guess – so who cares. Let’s just hand these areas over to criminals and vagrants. Yes? I hope not. Source: Andre from Table Mountain Watch
  3. I think one thing in our favour is that its happened in that one corner a couple of times. If we could check out that area between 9 and 11 on the weekends, Im sure we will eventually find something. PS.Also what about a Wistle? one can hang it around your neck, maybe hear it a km far away? the oldays they used it..
  4. Hey Guys, Thanks for your replys, I dont want to Hi-jack this thread altogether though, but this was just to close to home for me. I just spoke to Dumbo, He said It happened on the Eden DH track. He was going down a drop when someone hit him, right on the lip of the drop sending him flying down to a crash landing. He seems fine, Bruised on his arms and face. They broke the helmet with the blow, and then stole it. He just wants his bike back. He is going back there with Police to go show them the spot and then to go look for it as athere are apparently a few shacks that went up in the area. Atleast he is not just letting it go. Please send this on to all your mates in the Know. Bos
  5. It happened yesterday late afternoon, not at the G-spot, so It had to have been closer to the forrest. I also asked If it was the G-spot, as I love the plac and I cant imagine the feeling of railing around one of the burms and someone with a pole sitting behind a bush. I heard the news from my friends, Didnt speak to him. Aparently he said he was fine but His GF said he wont eat solids for a while... I will try get info for you.
  6. Ya, hit right off his bike, then they had the effing balls to take the very helmet that probably saved his life! and he is not a small chap, for him not to have had put up a fight He must have been scared shitless. Okes, DONT RIDE BY YOURSELVES EVER.
  7. One of my good friends was attacked in Paradyskloof -Stellenbosh last night. The guys ambushed him, Hit him in the face with a pole, Knocked his teeth F*cked, then ripped off his fullface helmet and stole his Green Santacruze bullet with gray RS Totem. Im so Angry I feel like Squashing my F*cking mouse in my right hand. I will kill those okes If I find him..

    Shin splints

Ive had shinsplints everytime I trianed for a Xterra of half marathon and had to lay off my running a bit and pay on the day but atleast finish. This last summer Ive started running with a couch potato friend, 3x 3km a week, yes, Its super frustrating but I battle to go slow by myself. When We race our bikes we feel pain for the whole race, but Its burn, not actual bodily mulfunctioning stuff. k So My shinsplints seem to have finally, after about 2 years stopped. Now for your real Question. When you do run, Get a OT or a sports Phisyotherapist to help tape your shins, It stablizes the muscle and should stop the damage to some extent. Try running on grass, even take your shoes off and run on soft grass. I would lay off on hard runs as long as you can, those big strides hammer shins. Ice after the run Warm up properly, by walking the first 10 minutes or even spin your bike on a IDT then run. cant think of any more. Hope some help
  9. I wonder what one of those solar powered web cam CCTV vibes cost? Im not expecting it to be cheap.. but a few of those might be a step in the right direction, although its impossible to cover all areas. Im especially worried about the winter months comming up.. Bad light etc.. Although the thugs dont seem to be wondering out to early or late.
  10. I just got this e-mail from a friend> "u hear some poor guy was attacked and stabbed in his leg just above rhodes mem yesterday morning, they stole his bike. its getting way to dodge to ride up there by yourself, we need to recruit some big boys to ride with us" Its getting really bad yes. I wonder If we would be able to go sit and watch and then respond. What about something like starting a BBM group, and when something happenes everyone is alerted at the same time and maybe some can try respond? I guss I dont ride with a phone because I dont want to risk getting it stolen I dunno? any suggestions?
  11. Who Else Is riding, Im a bit out of the loop (been of velopages for to long I take it the fact that theres so much climbing takes guys like Evans & Vinikorof out? Is Evans still riding or is he still crying about last years crash? Looks like he is riding but I dont think he can climb with the top guys. I love Vino, Just cause the oke is as crazy as sa flipping fruitbat, and actually makes for good watching. I recon If Basso's training is right he has enough experiance to try some tricks on "the stick insect" Otherwise Christian Vandevelde can climb, maybe not a direct threat. I, Donno, Anyone but Schlek
  12. Tankman thing is Im not sure the older version works with the new "ant" connect thing which my garmin uses. I loved my sportstracks but ya, seems I cant get my 310xt to work on it
  13. I still have sportstracks on my desctop PC from a while back but when I wanted to upload it onto my laptop recently I saw one could only get the trial version Free. I guess the 35 USD for the full version is really nothing for the flexability it offers compared to Training centre. Its been unchanged for the 3 years I have been on garmin products, maybe about time for a BIG upgreade Garmin? If any of you upgraded to the New Full version, can you tell me If they still have all the Plugins avalable? and are they for free? or do you pay one by one?
  14. My XT's did the same on my santacruze. I ran Metal sintered pads. Had to live with it.
  15. But some of us use that rubber for more than keeping warm
  16. same weekend as Gardenroute 300 race, pitty I had to choose. but last year was one of the toughest races /challenges I ever took on. that heat was to much. Im doing the gardenroute 300
  17. "50 picograms/millilitre is actually 40 times less than a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory is required to be able to detect. Had Contador’s samples been tested by most laboratories in the World the substance might well have gone undetected, but the laboratory in Cologne, Germany has newer and more precise testing equipment than many others. There is no legal threshold for clenbuterol however, which means that any detected amount is classed as a positive test." Can You imagine how much Contador hates the Germans now! Bet He sold his Merc after this
  18. Do you go over Kloofnek or around seapoint? I take it seapoint Otherwise it shouldnt take longer than 2hrs.
  19. I should tell you about my Garmin experience...
  20. Karma Bro its not my bloody fault... are you saying its me? I'll come over there and strangle you with a bikeframe, my blood is boiling at these okes!! Im just joking ofcourse. But I bloody will strangle each one of those okes in the Montague gardens office! Its a flipping laugh these guys I swear. Take from it what you want. Im not unreasonable, I work with incompetant people all day, guys from factories, factories in china where they cant speak English or even know where Souf Africa is. But these Garmin okes, Another breed altogether.
  21. you know what, Ive recently gone through a whole lot of ****, with my garmin, at a time that I really wanted to record new trails in the knysna forrest and Im training hard .. Ok whats my problem. I had a Forunner 305, the unit gave **** every 6 months over the 2 years I had it, untill it oneday just popped open by itself upon which I taped it shut(it was still working) That went on till it gave me the finger oneday and I had to do the dreaded thing of taking it back to the distributor. Why dreaded, Because it means 2-3 weeks without a clue as to how My training is going, so much so that the last time it broke I just got use to riding without a monitor or meter whatever you want to call it. The agents are so Clueless that they forgot to send the unit twice, then they sent the wronng Item, and then when I asked them to send it to knysna because I was going on holiday they sent it to cape town, capetown then sent it back to me in knysna but after a bunch of dishonnesty on who made the effup they finally supplied me with a tracking no, 5 minutes before they closed shop for the holidays, I drove to town into knysna maddness over festive season, the guy at SAPO told me thate was no such no. Luckely after some time of my being adiment that It had to be thee I realised they gave me the tracking no for the Joburg to capetown trip not cape to knysna. I made the oke at the postoffice go through hell and Finally after handsearching for each parcill we found one that just said, ""stefan"" not spelt right, its a miracle I got that thing at all. Each time I had to take my older unit in they said all they did was a "software update" which I can now do myself so I dont have to phone them everyday to make sure they dont forget to send it in. Its just that kind of Thanks for your money now F*ck off" attitude that is making my blood boil all over again. so...Ive had my new "upgrade" 310xt for a month now. a week after getting it it oneday just stopped telling me the distance, It was still giving me speed, so It had to somehow be reading satalites but no distance. then when I wanted to go through the painful and terrible Uploadprocedure via "ant software" It didnt want to download anything, then It didnt want to re- set on my next ride somuch did it irritate me that I couldnt take the unit back because that was like having a tooth pulled. I read up and saw on a forum that one needed to do a "hard reset" wich wipes all information and personal + personalised settings off and you start from scratch, lovely! So, yesterday Its a great day in capetown and the wind let up for just long enough, and Im pacing down the twelve apostles.. guess what?? the effing thing gives me the minger all over again... So, thats all I have against Garmin..RAGE It feels like this picture..
  22. I have had that, but then The gears would skip straight away If you power down. but I wouldnt put it out the equasion straight away...
  23. I stand to be corrected here, but Lithium based Grease eats rubber parts I serviced my RST MOZO Pro 3.5'' spring/elastomer fork with some stuff I got for 10bucks ad midas, a month later my elastomers had all failed, o-rings expanded and broke pieces just broke off. So just watch that stuff. Dont even know If it still exists though.. It was black grease, probably for car bearings
  24. As a rule of thumb, You can use non ust- Foldable tires and convert them but wire beed isnt dense enough to keep the air in and rip even easier. Ive had 2 maxxis tires (folding) on front for the last 2 years and no problems. Keep pressure up as yes they will roll easier in burms and hard corners but eventually they "glue" themselves to the strip and doesnt burp as easy.
  25. Hahaha, you ou's are sharp as Minora blades this mornig
