  1. I Have the Nukeproof Horizon pedals. They are extremely grippy and in my experience have been reliable. Have had Shimano Saint (previous gen) and DMR V8s. The Saint gripped the "worst" but had the nicest shape for foot fatigue. The Nukeproof pins are so big that you can feel them - you can of course make them shorter if you want. Buy Nukeproof Horizon if you want absolute grip.
  2. This is the bike I would buy if I had the money. Perfect specs, geometry and price.
  3. That seems reasonable for the kit. Keen to do the same when I eventually own my own house.
  4. Nice setup! What was the total installed cost?
  5. It looks like a manufacturing defect. Should be covered under warranty IMO.
  6. Great event by the organisers. The short stages worked well. But I did mis the proper top to bottom runs. The event was much easier than previous years.
  7. What we really should be worried about is wind, much more crap than rain.
  8. Don't think too much about it. You are going very slow mostly on Plumber, so it is actually not that dangerous. You can also walk down the dodgy stuff easily. You have a much higher chance of getting hurt on Red Phoenix. Try raising your handlebars a spacer or 2. Gives a huge confidence boost on steep terrain.
  9. When considering value, performance and durability, Shimano SLX is by far the best. I have a full XO1 Eagle setup and am extremely happy. I have ran it for more than a year without touching it. Really high quality. But extremely pricey so should be. I have had NX Eagle before and it was terrible. With SRAM you need to pay to play. Their entry level brakes and gears are garbage.
  10. Really cool stages that they chose, something new. BIG day out.
  11. Any full rigid singlespeed with rim brakes, any wheel size. The only reliable long term option. Don't bother with gears.
  12. That drop is very doable, just takes a lot of energy to get enough speed. You will not make it from the Armageddon side unless you do a big bunnyhop to clear the gap. It would be a non-feature if it had a downhill run-up. Disclaimer: I only hit it when I feel good (very seldom).
  13. Does anyone really believe that all these top guys aren't doping? Mathias just got caught, that is the only difference between him and the rest of the field. Nino probably called in a favor with his buddies.
  14. Any of the following will be great: Trek Top Fuel, Trek Fuel EX, Specialized Stumpjumper. As you have an MX background I would 200% recommend going trail bike. Don't go less than 120 mm. Sweet spot IMO is 130 to 140 mm.
  15. Interesting. Care to elaborate?
  16. XX1 bolt kit is the same price as a new Deore derailleur. Loctite does not work when parts don't have a snug fit.
  17. The main bolt and housing of the NX and SX derailleur is manufactured to sloppy tolerances and of poor materials. With use it develops play and you end up re-fastening the derailleur every ride. The movement due to the bolt causes bad shifting when you forget to tighten it. Then you end up bending your hanger as the whole thing twists. You have to bodge a fix with a redbull can to take up the play. It is a bad product, especially considering the price.
  18. Leave the dam wall open if traction is good when wet
  19. Awesome trail! Well done
  20. Your bike should be confiscated if you have air shocks and don't own a shock pump.
  21. If you can afford it buy a full suspension. If going hardtail, look at steel.
  22. My recommendation would be to start with changing your saddle. Most bicycles come with male saddles. Males and females have very different sit bone widths. Good bike shops have a thing you sit on, which measures your sitbones. This helps in finding a saddle. Another tip is to not wear underwear AND your cycling short. The cycling short should be worn on its own. Most cyclists have had bum issues somewhere along the line. Goodluck!
  23. 35mm bars are one of the great wins of the marketing departments. Zero benefit except creating a new standard. Stick to 31.8mm, they are much more comfortable. In carbon or alloy. I really enjoy my Spank Vibrocore bars.
  24. It really grinds my gears that bike companies charge R460 for something that costs less than R20 to make and is a disposable item!!!
  25. We had a 2015 Caddy Maxi Crew Bus. The Maxi is only available in diesel. We loved the car. I would try and get a 2.0 TDi, the engine is great. The short one is big enough, but the Maxi is nice. Some notes on our ownership experience: Great fuel economy (1000 km on 60 litres, easily) You can sleep fully stretched out in the Caddy Maxi, with the 2nd row of seats folded, I am 1.86 m. I have an XL 29er trail bike, it fit, fully assembled in the boot with all 5 seats in place (2 rows of seats) Really nice to drive - good handling The servicing and parts are expensive, services ranged from R4k to R15k (timing belt and waterpump is replaced at 120000km - expensive job!!) We never had a breakdown The bodywork is thin and dents easily, we used to joke that the car has cellulite Extremely high cabin noise when empty The car feels flimsy The car is low and you feel sorry for it on gravel roads I wish Toyota made the Caddy, it would then have been perfect.
