  1. Jaco-fiets - there is one per province at this stage yes. Denny - Zevewacht entries to open soon
  2. Heat was rof, waterpoints great (ice in every cup?!), singletrack rocked
  3. First event is on-road at Roodeplaat on March 04, then there is off-road event at waterfall estate (same as 94.7 mtb venue) on 22 July. Full details on www.duathlon.co.za
  4. Also considering sticking a toe into the duathlon world but... eish the running
  5. Only thing I am gonna say is if you find it really tough, dont stop entering them because Sabie does have a way of not being to everyone's liking, some years when its wet and rocky, it can kinda get to you. next one at clarens is easier, but will also have a section where first timers go "really?? people ride this". and then you will get to mabalingwe (enter now cos it fills up quickly) - thats just all lekkerrr, actually a great "first race" to get you started Enjoy
  6. I just paid R60 for my XTR shifter to be opened and serviced, gears to be reset and wash and lube at Epic Sports in Centurion (which, I believe, is owned by Paul Cordes). Cant ask for more can we?
  7. Rossouw caught me just before the finish (I was doing 75k) and lemme tell you it looked like he was doing a time trial... what a machine!
  8. Frits Pienaar finished in 8th Sub Vets on the 75km, good to see him back with a bang But my time keeps improving by 10 minutes every year, so he better watch out, when we 90...
  9. Was lekker as always...more than 14 river crossing by MY count, bike started backfiring, but thats barberton
  10. I like that, I am gonna use it - a talent-challenged normal oke that wants to just ride. Barbeton 75k is my favourite event and that curvy stretch with the s-corners going down the back of groenkloof is my favourite piece of trail anywhere in the world, but you have to do it at speed
  11. Watching Nadal play is like watching my own brother competing... i get as emotional as a chick watching Boer Soek 'n Pou...lol Vamos Rafa!! You are the greatest tennis player ever...
  12. Cant wait to get there, hope it rains a bit on the day
  13. I noticed two chaps training from around 5 in the morning between amberfield and gardner ross, when my frame comes back from the carbon repairmen I may hook up with them
  14. Okay I think I am busy for the rest of today...
  15. Got my bike back from cyclelab yesterday with someone else's chainguard on it (whatever you call that sock that goes around the thing that stops your chain from slapping the crap out of your frame) * wont service my bike myself, like I wont format the pc myself or change the timing on my car. there are people better equipped to do it * removing tape and stickers are/should be part of a good service, shows they paid attention to what they were doing * sometimes, you take the same problem from one LBS to another until someone gets it right, as I had to do this time (cyclelab's solution is normally to replace anything you complained about, but this time it DID solve a gearing problem that three visits to other lbs did not fix)
  16. Did it last year, wasn't anywhere near fit enough, this year I am even less fit but have entered, bring it on! (Still my favourite waterpoint in any race, the one in the riverside farmer's front yard with the hosepipe in the tree)
  17. If you dig around on the hub a bit you will find a similar initiative near Zeerust. I went there and had a FANTASTIC time, so did many other hubbers. Half the appeal is that its not commercial, you are really out on your own. (The fact that they have so much game was a big plus)
  18. Actually Andrew, this "armchair critic" just participated in the Legend Gorge race in Limpopo, where elephants wandering onto the track also caused a race delay of more than an hour. No shots were fired, no animals traumatised and no cyclists' lives were put in danger. Why? Because they started tracking the elephants and lions from several days prior to the event until the last rider had crossed the line. This allowed them to anticipate any possible interaction between the two, and therefore manage the safety of both animals and riders. Oh and you being a former ranger...you dont raise money for wild dogs by shooting at elephants Andrew.
  19. "Eventually with great courage and at great personal risk to her life, San Marie, (with the help of her accurate marksmanship) had to repeatedly fire her rifle at the feet of the elephant to get them to move off the course." That aint right...
  20. Certainly could not have been fun on the day, but kinda makes for a lekker story to tell future cycling buddies...
  21. Thanks Zoon!

  23. Now did they not come up with that yonks ago, looks clever...
  24. I am liking this thread, so much honesty And it makes me feel better about being sick and not being able to ride a tricycle without my nose running...
