  1. I have sprayed Q8 on some of my cables to reduce friction. It can however also be a dust collector, but on my MTB it hasn't been an issue after quite some km's. Agree with Paul, stay away from normal grease. I would consider something like teflon or silicon grease but not sure how available it is. We use it at work on quite a range of non-metals.
  2. Frictional losses comes from a lot of places on a bicycle and drive train with the bb and jockey wheels probably having the lowest contribution. Perhaps for the elite where every 0.01% makes a difference, but not for me. Feels a bit to fitting hollow bolts on a bike... 2 kg of weight loss on a bike is extremely difficult and expense if possible. My boepens probably gives me 5 kg which I can save...
  3. From my experience the overall race was not such that you have to save yourself for the end. For me I tried to keep the pace constant for the total distance. It is a fairly fast route with some long distances where drafting really helps, for me at least. I am fat and slow now more than then. I remember one technical section where there was a traffic jam where you could not fairly easily get past the guy in front of you. Was about 15 km in if not mistaken. Not that it was difficult, just the normal one guy stops and everyone then walks thing. Other than that think Rosemary Hill for technical level. Enjoy it and keep the tires down.
  4. After looking for a long while I imported one from chainreactioncycles. Does not have gears and I am sure you can get it for cheaper but at end of day I paid about R2200 total.
  5. I would just recommend that you make sure that it is the saddle which is the problem and not the part of getting used to cycling again. I have replaced saddles in the past as well but I have realized that the foundation is more susceptible to light injuries after not riding for a while. Padded pants can also play a huge role. Anyway enjoy it and keep the tires facing down.
  6. Hi i have been using one of these probably now for 7 years mainly on a Suzuki GV. Mostly only for one bike but have put two on occasionally. Furthest I rode was with two bikes from Pretoria to Scottburgh and back for sani. So far no issues. The bottom strap preventing the bike from swinging forward and back (relative to car) has broken but i replaced that with a makro cargo strap. I also disassembled it and placed hollow pool noodles over the pipes to protect my bikes. Not that i get contact between the pipes and the bike. I normally turn the cranks that that rather pushes against the bike rack pipe. After all the years and often riding gravel, the rack still clamps securely onto the towball. Never had a issue where it moves on the ball even when sometimes riding a bit fast on rough gravel roads or just normally on tar roads. Sometimes latter is worse. Would not recommend using this rack if you are always transporting two bikes. It works perfectly for one, but when using two it is always required to place a pool noodle or something between the bikes. The bikes still move around a bit and that can cause some paint damage which i dont prefer. Good luck
  7. They did email a quote when i took the bike in but no price was indicated. So lesson learned also. Learned that day that you can only trust yourself.
  8. On the other side you take your bike in for a rim replacement and carbon repair. Based on prices quoted you estimate it should cost about R3000 (R1000 for carbon repair, 1500 for rim and spokes and 500 for rim build. Then when you pick up your bike invoice is R6500 as the bike has to be completely stripped and rebuilt for a very visibly and repairable crack on the frame (was in middle of top tube, no parts in there if i can remember correctly). Also to just rebuild a wheel is not store policy. So it's nice that my original request evolved to a full rebuild and service with replaced chain, cables, brake pads due to "store policy" but i am unreasonable if i want to assault the salesman. Not everyone sommer has 3500 lying around. Not some crap LBS, this is one of the more reputable places. The workmanship is excellent but due to these issues i don't support hem anymore. Also try to hand in smallest form of part to be worked on if i need to go to a LBS now.
  9. Good time for a double buffels. Enjoy
  10. There is a rubberband feature as far as i know. So when you are in drafting position you need to pedal a bit harder than normal to get past. It is normally not severe and you get past quite easily. Not sure about your experience on Alpe. I am normally the guy getting passed.
  11. HI Chris, I believe it is average for the race duration. FTP is based on an hour duration, while some races can be shorter or longer. I select based on average and normally finish in the top half of the group (I am mostly in low group.
  12. Cant think that it will be a problem. Any incompatibilities for fitment will be visible before you start pedaling.
  13. The chatting always confuses me. Normally there I am, ready to puke of effort, and those around you are discussing weather... But it definitely does help if you are in a group, you push harder.
  14. I also have a fan blowing directly on Kickr. With all the climbing for TRON bike never had one issue of irregular power readings or cutting out. Would say most of the climbing was done up Epic KOM or Alpe du Zwift. Zwift set to about 70% difficulty to still have fairly close spacing between gears. I weigh 95kg and use a MTB on Kickr.
  15. For some added motivation select the Mt Everest challenge. Keep on going once you reach the 8.8 or so km and work for the Tron bike.
  16. Thanks for the reply.
  17. Hi, just a question on your hub bearings: I had a bearing failure shortly after bike purchasing (2018 Scott spark). The LBS guys pushed VERY hard for me to install full compliment bearings rather than normal ball bearings. I almost had to go the "Luister jy nou f#@@en mooi vir my" route to stop them from doing it. According to me full compliment bearings are not suited for use in hubs or am I missing something?
  18. Penny-Farthing with a 56-11 drivetrain and oversize wheels perhaps...
  19. Running ANT+ since beginning of zwift. Never had issues while there are a lot of complaints of connections dropping.
  20. Worked hard for it, so Tron bike of course. Saw a guy the other day on facebook forum saying he is at 60km of climbing and no sign of tron bike yet. Never selected the challenge... Ouch.
  21. No problems. Large chainring at front an middle of casette. Enough range to easily ride at 40 ish.
  22. Hi i have a mtb on my kickr. I reduced the difficulty setting to effectively use less of my gears. Other way to see it is that you get a wider range out of your mtb. When spinning like crazy i can reach about 93 down the lighthouse hill. Running my difficulty at around 70%
  23. Hi proud owners, just a question. Is it normal for the Kickr 2018 to make more noise as it heats up? When cold I only hear drive train noise but it gets worse after some hard riding. It sounds like a slight screech from the region of the tensioner pulley. The screech is in sync with the belt (one screech per passing of belt). Note that this is not the woodruff key issue. That was already fixed. Thanks again to iKhambi.
