  1. Because Morewoord's statement, if he made it is nonsense. its not one or the other. Some marathon riders refuse to run dropper posts because their second bottle is on the seat post. You can have proper suspension, a dropper post and two bottle cages if you want it. But then you have to drop brand fascination and not believe marketing hype.
  2. This is the thread for discussing real mountain bike riders, no lycra allowed Be Gone! ????
  3. And there he stayed... Bruni is no. wan.
  4. Quali's are now live. Myriam Nicole bested Vali by about 7 secs to take pole. Men currently on track.
  5. Awesome track. The top riders in the world are finding it very hard. Cabirou hurt herself quite badly on the big road gap and one rider even landed in the trees to the right of it. Hoping for good results for Greg and Theo.
  6. Ya, was going to say, I once owned a LUST in 26". They were not up to the latest EXO casing by any stretch...
  7. Look at Rapide.co.za for chainring options. (PS maybe just get a ruler out next time instead of getting the wrong info on bike Hub - see initial reply ???? )
  8. Its threaded. Eldron, I did notice some extra bits that looked like they were for some kind of wrench and wondered about that. It feels exactly like the bearings are too tight, like cup and cone that have been screwed up too tight. If I get a chance I'll check it out and adjust. Special tools needed? Ah found this...
  9. Maybe I need to courier her frame to Hambini for an alignment check ????
  10. I'd prefer 25mm Flows. I happily run 2.4s on my 23mm 26" flows. My 2.6 Assegai looks too square on my 29mm WTB rims for my liking.
  11. I sometimes put my mech skills to the test on friends bikes. In the most recent, a friend bought a Silverback Stratos AL in January this year. Its a good deal in today's terms but has a few quirky features and some design flaws. The shop, a noted Bellville store recently bought out by a bigger local chain, did a devastatingly poor job of setting the bike up. This included loose grips, loose bars, dodgy cable routing and a loose stem among a few other things. The dropper post stopped working after its first service and I had to sort this for her. I found really bad cable routing - via a too small aperture in the seat tube and some very poor quality cable inner and outer supplied by Silverback. All sorted easily with a quality cable inner and outer but not something you should have to spend on a few months after purchase. ( or repair after the bike has supposedly had a shop service) While I was busy with the dropper issue, I noticed that the DUB BB with NX cranks was running very rough. Rougher than my much older Shimano BB and worse because there was actually additional drag felt at the cranks because of increased friction. I didn't have time to investigate properly and wondered if anyone has had similar issues with their Stratos bikes or DUB BB's in general?
  12. This thing weighs about 1kg more than the Cannondale and has an even higher pivot. On looks alone, I'd prefer the Jekyll.
  13. Local availability is set for early 2022 and pricing will be available closer to then.
  14. I think there are fewer proprietary parts on this bike than a Scalpel. No weird cranks, forks and such like.
  15. I saw they were advertising it on the PB home page a few days ago. When I clicked, the site showed the old Jekyll and only lower down the new models. Eish, Cannondale.
  16. On another note - see how the Scott Spark launch article makes front page here for weeks... no such Cannondale marketing going on, even world wide where its been quite low key. That said, Bike Network at least covered the release of the Jekyll.
  17. I quite like the quirky Cannondale and it sounds like it works well. The PB review cites excessive idler/chain noise in the lowest gears which puts me off a bit though. Its also quite heavy for a full carbon bike, then again it does have those big wheels...I'm also not convinced by the rush to high pivot/idler bike designs, It smacks of faddish marketing based on alleged performance benefits in certain situations, based in turn on the performance of top class riders, eg Pierron who would be fast on any bike.
  18. Take it to a competent bike shop or knowledgeable friend to set the bike up properly. The fork ( and shock) is probably way too firm for a lighter woman rider and the tyres may be too hard too. PS - DHFs and DHRs are bread and butter trail riding tyres in the rest of the world. Only in SA do people think an Ardent Race is an aggressive trail tyre ????
  19. I thought of going the 46 route on my 10 speed with an XT med cage. I decided not to and instead put a 30t Rapide front ring on and went with a Shimano 11-42 cassette. I could only get a SRAM chain but its a nice shiny one and the shifting is better than I've ever had with this drivetrain. The 30 does mean you could run out of revs a bit at speed on the road but for MTB its been perfect and it really makes the hills much easier.
  20. Its a bar height thing. He is short and his seat to bar height ratio is too flat for the climbs. I have the opposite problem. My bars are too low thanks to crappy frame design by all manufacturers which fails to lengthen the head tube on XL and XXL sizes sufficiently.
