  1. What an oke! Don't make 'em like they used to. I love these bits: ... his biggest problem being his familiarity with velodrome riding. "I haven’t cycled on a track for 80 years," he said. ... "For the last five years I have decided not to go for rides of more than 100km. There is no point going overboard." Hell, I count myself lucky if I can do a comfy ride of 100km.
  2. Nice one Bonus! Let Jack's old man know we're all hoping for his recovery, even if we don't know who he is. Goodbye Colnago (may insurance cover your replacement and your nice Record parts end up with someone deserving - like Bonus, for example.)
  3. I thought about doing this one, but it seems I'm getting bronchitis right about now. Great timing. Let's see what magic antibiotics and cortisone can do - if only before the Argust.
  4. Something I thought of the other day from bitter (repeated) experience as a single person. When you leave the office ... check you have your house keys, check you have your house keys, double check you have your house keys, triple check you have your house keys, check that you have your house keys again, then double check, then triple check and check again ...
  5. And Kranswurm is a master of understatement. FRAIL - is the bike fixed? If not, were there bits you could sell? If there were bits you could sell, are you selling them?
  6. A couple of years ago, before I was riding again, I was at the office (Chiappini Street) on the day of the race Chiappini Street. 4 or 5 cars were broken into in rapid succession - the watchers saw the bikes come off the racks and knew they had an hour or three to have some good action. Don't park in deserted areas. In most cases, Greenpoint or upper town has lotsa free space. It's probably easier to ride to the start than to mission too far to your car afterwards.
  7. I'm with touristvisa on this, I must admit. I decided to have two coffees and a chocolate croissant at The Old Biscuit Mill with the Woodstock Cycleworks homies instead. Even so, it was a chilly ride and I turn inside out when it's cold or wet. Well done to all who did it, whether finished or DNF. Hope you accident victims get sorted soon.
  8. Nice Dsan, that's cvome out a real beaut - wirth the wait. I hope she rides as good as she looks. Global warming worries me. It's snowing in Durban?
  9. I seem to remember reading somewhere that cramps come from a lack of Potassium in the diet.
  10. "Are you okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay?" as he rides off into the distance.
  11. Some alternatives ...
  12. Jeez, it's not like that TT bike's inconspicuous. Damn irritating to you; hope you get a nice payout.
  13. A few photocopied posters along the path? A pain, I know, but a considerate thing to do if you're not a &%$@$%^#*^ Inconsiderate Cyclist's!!!!
  14. Bwahahaha! (But actually, I still want to know which of the cyclist's possessions is so inconsiderate.)
  15. It's on the BEN (Bicycle Empowerment Network) shirt. Bright yellow one.
  16. Flying past? Bwahahaha! Then it has to be someone else, Nuge. You're the one who does the flying. But I didn't wave? Sorry 'bout that! I usually try to at least do a nod, or a "Morning!", or a flap of the hand ... unless I see some **** pedestrian about to do the dumb things that **** pedestrians do best.
  17. That's me in my first Argus. One at ... what's it called, Ocean View? (A misnomer, like Lavendar Hill.) One coming out of Noordhoek. Another somewhere on Chappies. Now I carry Nocorettes and just use the thought of a ciggie as a good motivation to finish faster (not that I do).
  18. Tony Ehrenreich must be doing his nut: Helen had those cycle paths built just for herself.
  19. This is all very fine with women leading the bunch, but the question is: can they make sandwiches at the same time?
  20. It's the tyres that impress me, but man, that chain ring sure takes a beating.
  21. A sad day. A sad day indeed. A sad, sad, sad day. Very, very sad. Did I say it was a sad day? It is. That's what it is. A day that is sad. A sad day. I'm bored. Is it time to go home yet? It was fun cycling in the rain this morning. Without a helmet. Going through red traffic lights.
  22. I just had to check and double check and check again that this isn't February 2nd. But then I found I'd done that all before, like reading these posts.
  23. ... so I'm chortling along quietly on my own when this TJOP comes past in the 2nd 50km bunch. They're all very important. see. He brushes my handlebars with his, then says, "Won't you please move over to the left?" Now, this is difficult, considering I'm about 30cm from the uneven curb of the road, which I felt necessary to point out to him: "Shall I ride on the gravel for you? (missing out the "oh my leige lord, oh honoured and mighty one.") Then he cuts in again; if I hadn't been ready to feather the brakes (no doubt to the consternation of everyone behind me) he'd have spread me across the gravel. Oooooh, to give him a snot-klap .... Tiny K, most excellent to meet you! 'Dale, lekker seeing you again!
  24. You can do what you like with SRAM, but if you mix with Campy you go straight to hell. Fact.
