  1. There is a road event on the Saturday, and a MTB event on the Sunday. According to people I have spoken to is should be a good ride.
  2. Karma Please PM me the particulars of the offenders. Would like to take it up with them when I visit them shortly. Good manners cost nothing, and go a long way. As my dad used to say: "Manners maketh the man."
  3. Well done on the top 50. Next goal should be to consistently get top 10, then perhaps go for a podium spot after that. Remind yourself that if you are in the top 50, there are 49 other riders infront of you blocking the way to the podium. Ride to get through them, then ride to get onto the podium.
  4. They have reached their limit of 2200 entrants.
  5. All road accidents should be reported within 24 hours, or as soon as possible after the event.
  6. Will work out a route/distance for you if you give me the suburb you are in.
  7. Hope this helps https://www.bikehub.co.za/events/event/465-vori-berg/
  8. Vori-Berg is always good for a Saturday morning.
  9. Long baggies used by roadies to try and make them look like mountain bikers?
  10. The general concensus has always been that they are only allowed to enter half marathon events from the Youth category (14-16) Any younger and they should enter the fun (10-20 km) events.
  11. I think quite a few riders start out with wearing undies under their bibs. I know when my son started "seriously" cycling it took a gentle hint or two to get him to realise that bibs are actually worn with nothing underneath. Try telling a 13-14 year old that thinks he knows everything that what he knows is not how it works....

    Help

All three bikes are similarly specced, and will be a good buy to start you off with. The Giant Talon I see is a 29er, which should put you in the right direction, irrespective of what everyone says. GT also offer good value for money, and the GT Karokoram 2.0 will also fall within your price class. http://www.gtbicycles.com/2012/bikes/mountain/trail/2012-karakoram-2-0 Locally designed Momsen bikes are also good. http://www.momsenbikes.com/bikes.cfm?prod=al329 Welcome to the world of MTBing.
  13. OC spray as in Ocilium Capsicum, or pepper spray. Once you have used the OC spray you preferably don't want to hang around and find out if there is anything you can do to relieve the (hopefully) discomfort you have caused to the person that was out to take possession you of your bike. Therefore the escape routes mentioned.
  14. A word of caution. There a a LOT of holes in the fence, especially against the highway closest to the Fountains circle, leading to the drop-off that comes out behind the bathrooms. Take a riding partner with you, and preferably also some OC spray attached to the handle bar or top tube. The bush bordering the track is also overgrown, so escape routes are difficult.
  15. We did a trip to Oudshoorn last year just before the Attakwas, and had the bike rack attached with my wifes' car number plate still attached. On the N8 just before Petrusburg we were stopped by Spietkops (RayBans et al.) and fined R500-00 for displaying the wrong number plate. The stupid thing is that I had the right number plate for the bike rack in the car, but it was under all the luggage, on top of the spare wheel. Lesson learnt out of this? Rather take the 2 minutes to put the proper number plate on, and save some money.

  23. The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) does have a narrow hood, that it can inflate when threatened, alarmed or as a threat display. The boomslang (Dispholidus typus) also has a type of hood, that it can inflate, often showing a contrasting colour between the scales. The hoods are not of the classic cobra type, but rather a ballooning of the throat area, with the mamba hood being more pronounced and slightly flatter.
  24. Glad to hear that Michelle is doing OK, and that there is no permanent damage.
  25. Should be on www.spectrumsport.co.za
